My name is Anne, and I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Michigan University with a BA in English and a BS in Psychology. I received my MFA from Emerson College with a specialization in poetry. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and received the Academy of American Poet's Prize upon graduation. Since then, I've been a professor of English and the humanities for 17 years at several colleges. I've published six books of poetry and I've been published in over 200 literary journals. I was a Best of the Net recipient, a Barbara Deming Memorial Grant recipient, and a Pushcart Prize nominee. I currently run a blog on mental health.
I was fortunate to have professors who nurtured my passions and inspired me to have confidence and pursue my ambitions. As a professor and tutor, I value working independently with students so that their writing highlights their strengths, passions, talents, and curiosities. I see reading and writing as a process of exploration: developing empathy, documenting history, and sharpening critical thinking. As much as possible, I seek to restore joy and dismantle shame when it comes to reading and writing.
I have experience tutoring and teaching students at the high school and college level, and I've also taught SAT prep for the reading and writing sections of the exam. I'm fast to respond and have a flexible availability. Feel free to message me with any questions or to schedule a tutoring session!
