Hi! My name is Alyssa, and I enjoy reading, writing, and helping students develop their skills in those areas. I have experience teaching both public and private high school English, but my passion is one-on-one tutoring.

I have taught 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English. I didn't fully appreciate the advantage of private tutoring until I taught my own classes of 30+ students. Now I have experienced the limitations of group learning and am thrilled to return to a setting where I'm able to focus on individual needs.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education and a master’s degree in British Literature. While in grad school, I tutored on campus at the Writing Center and worked in the English department’s dual enrollment office. After completing my master's degree, I taught high school in Louisiana for 1.5 years until my husband got a job offer in Houston. Though I was certified to teach in Louisiana, I am not certified to teach in Texas. I took some time to acclimate to life as a Texan before returning to work, but now I'm excited to interact with students again, especially since I get to do it in the capacity I find most enjoyable.

My apartment complex has a business center with reservable pods for residents. I find that a semi-public, but quiet, location makes all parties comfortable. I am open to meeting at other locations, though. I do request 24 hours of notice if a student needs to cancel a session.
