You can learn how to communicate and express better starting today. Research has proven that the brain acts just like a muscle, physically growing as learners actively engage with it. Just like physical exercise, students can make the most of the time they spend "working out" their minds if they have a guide, coach, and trainer. I would like to be all of these things for you or your student.

I believe in teaching and tutoring skills rather than topics. Every lesson I do and every example I provide will help my students feel immediately as though they have a new tool at their disposal that they can use to reach new heights of understanding and new depths of expression. While I do aim to help all students become immediately successful in the course or concept they are currently studying, my true objective is to foster an understanding and proficiency that will stay with them throughout their lives. My students don't simply make better grades - they become better learners.

I have taught Pre-AP English at the 9th grade level and provided writing coaching and tutoring for all levels of undergraduate college writing. I also have experience with proactive college preparedness courses, and specialize in college applications, essays, scholarship necessities, and SAT/ACT prep. I have a tremendous amounts of various resources which enable me to quickly diagnose and address individual needs for individual students; no two lessons are the same. I have a tremendous interest in all types of literature and an expert understanding of difficult grammar and mechanics issues many students struggle with.

I look forward to helping you become the strongest you can be!

"Ryan M. is a phenomenal tutor. The main reason I say that is because he does not tell you 'no, you're wrong' he inquires you about your work asking questions like 'what do you think needs to be fixed here? Does something look odd to you? Explain to me what you mean by that.' He has you thinking about

I am a graduate from the University of Texas at Dallas with a degree in Literature studies with a teacher certification. Beyond that, my experience with all forms of essay writing such as analysis, comparison and contrast, narrative, and especially argument allow me to give assistance with the most challenging assignments students will face. I can provide instruction from an expert level that students of all levels will find accessible and relevant to their particular needs.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

My work with hundreds of students on an individual basis over the past two years has given me extensive experience with the complexities of learning English as a Second Language. I can identify the elements that challenge speakers of languages such as use of articles, the difference between count and non-count nouns, subject/verb agreement, and tense, all of which are concepts that are often unique to speakers of other languages but can be easily overlooked by native English speakers. As a tutor and professor at a very diverse college, I have helped students whose primary languages include Arabic, Vietnamese, Indian, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese, Farsi, and Spanish, as well as many others. My approach to simplifying concepts for all learners has proven results. I can assist ESL students expertly, and hope to do so for you.
Grammar

Grammar

As a writing instructor who specializes in grammar and sentence structure, I have an expert knowledge of intricate grammar issues that are commonly challenging to students of all levels. My instruction provides the ability to understand complex concepts simply and easily.

Study Skills

As a teacher for a collegiate high school, I was involved in the AVID program. The AVID program stresses the use of collaborative and inquiry-based learning, as well as rigorous note-taking. I have taught prioritizing, test preparation, time management, and how to handle test anxiety. I have seen evidence that my students benefit from the program, and I am ready to carry those benefits on to future students!

Fun, Knowledgeable, My teens actually look forward to their sessions!

Ryan is great at what he does. I was a teacher in a previous life, and I'm impressed by his energy, wit and preparation. We have a junior girl and a sophomore boy working with him, and he has done a wonderful job honing in on their strengths and weaknesses. He wastes no time!

Mr. Ryan is very helpful. I am always asking a lot of questions, and he takes the time to answer all of them. It has been only two sessions and I have learned a lot.
