Hello North Texas!!

I'm HEALTH- and MEDICALLY-ORIENTED ORGANIC CHEMIST/LAKE HIGHLANDS HS SUBSTITUTE TEACHER, DR BRUCE, the dual CHEMISTRY-MATH ideally in-person mentor supporting ambitious DFW PREMED/DENTAL/PHARMACY/NEUROSCIENCE/NURSING/NUTRITION/STEM students. I focus on enhancing student achievement in GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA, PRECAL, TRIG, SAT+ACT MATH, and HONORS, PRE-AP, AP and IB CHEMISTRY; and also COLLEGE ALGEBRA, INTRODUCTORY CHEMISTRY, GENERAL, ORGANIC and BIOCHEMISTRY/NUTRITION. These latter four subjects typically comprise the one semester INTRODUCTORY course I've taught at both TCC Southeast campus in Arlington and Mountain View College in Dallas.

Additionally, for those who will take the MCAT, PCAT, DAT or SAT CHEMISTRY SUBJECT TEST, I provide the needed clarity for GENERAL AND/OR ORGANIC CHEMISTRY and, if needed, ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY and TRIGONOMETRY for the MCAT, PCAT and DAT, and even the PSAT, SAT and ACT, as well.

Through consistency and real relationship building, my greatest positive impacts upon prospective students will be felt when commitments are made to regular schedules of meetups.

My approaches for enabling students to obtain the best grades in their CHEMISTRY-MATH courses and best scores on STANDARDIZED TESTS include providing clear, step-wise auditory explanations simultaneously accompanied by a host of relevant visual aids, as needed. These methods nearly always elicit the comment "THAT MAKES SENSE" and also help the students sharpen their critical thinking abilities which will go on to serve them quite well in their future career endeavors and lives.

As a strong advocate for student achievement, please see what sets me apart from many other very capable Wyzant tutors by going to "Ratings and Reviews" and pulling up the applicable testimonial(s) after having entered either the CHEM-MATH subject(s) of interest or MCAT/PCAT/SAT in the search box. Then, would you kindly reach out to me as that important first step in your journey toward becoming my next actual success story?

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I easily deal with the following topics routinely covered in a regular or advanced middle or high school Algebra 1 course: handling equations (particularly in word problems), solving inequalities, explaining a variety of functions (including graphical interpretation), solving systems of linear equations and linear inequalities, handling exponents and polynomials, factoring polynomials, handling exponential and radical functions, and dealing with rational functions and equations. As additional resources I possess an Algebra 1 "Teacher's Edition" text and a large assortment of supplemental assignments to provide for my students.

Having a very attractive achievement to in-person fee ratio among my competition, I strongly encourage you to consider reaching out to me from throughout DALLAS-FORT WORTH in order to get the immediate remediation for your High School ALGEBRA 2 or COLLEGE ALGEBRA challenges. What's more, particularly at the HONORS, PRE-AP or IB levels, ALGEBRA 2 with CHEMISTRY are one of my favorite pairings of subjects with which to concurrently tutor students. I easily handle most topics in ALGEBRA 2 and COLLEGE ALGEBRA and am especially strong in word problems, properties of logarithms and exponents (both used in AP and GENERAL CHEMISTRY), solving logarithmic, exponential and radical equations, factoring polynomials, simplifying expressions involving both radicals and complex numbers, and describing the behavior (domain, range, zeroes, presence of asymptotes) of a variety of functions to include quadratic, absolute value, rational, inverse, logarithmic, exponential and their transformed versions. Conic sections is also a familiar area of expertise. I am particular knowledgeable with the ALGEBRA 2 curricula taught in both the Plano (curriculum hasn't changed much since the 2015/2016 school year) and Richardson school districts. In addition, as readily available resources I have an ALGEBRA 2 "Teacher's Edition" text and supplemental assignments on a number of topics to hand out to students to help them better-prepare for quizzes and unit tests. At the beginning of each school year I will provide my newly-acquired students with several diagnostic ALGEBRA 2 readiness tests to help remedy any skill deficiencies carrying over from Algebra 1. And lastly, I will also be glad to work with any student who desires to fulfill his/her ALGEBRA 2 requirement by doing CBE.

Having begun back in my teens successfully tutoring HONORS-LEVEL GEOMETRY, for which I love providing the proper step-wise guidance, I easily handle any topic, including numerous types of applications problems, covered in a Regular or Advanced GEOMETRY course. This entails, for example, determining unknown angle measures or segment lengths in a variety of situations, training in inductive, deductive and proportional reasoning, demonstrating the various methods for proving polygons both congruent and similar, determining the lateral and total surface areas and also volumes of regular shapes and areas of irregular ones, carrying out 2-column proofs, recognizing the relationships between various angles and line segments associated with circles, and making the connections between Algebra in one or two unknowns and a wide variety of GEOMETRY concepts in word problem situations. A favorite pair of subjects with which I am very effective in concurrently tutoring students is GEOMETRY with CHEMISTRY. I provide a readily available vast array of supplemental assignments for my students and am quite familiar with the GEOMETRY curricula taught in several Dallas northern suburban school districts such as Plano and Richardson. I will also be glad to work with any student who desires to complete his/her GEOMETRY requirement by doing CBE.

Prealgebra is that critical point between the student's prior math experiences and the more challenging upcoming courses in Algebra and Geometry. With my skill set in the basic handling of numbers and the symbolic representation of numbers and ideas, I will build up the confidence level of the student through patience and encouragement. This will establish a strong foundation for future studies. I also use a Pre-Algebra assessment packet to gauge student readiness for handling their next course in Algebra 1. Performance exceeding 90% was achieved on the Texas State Educator's Gr. 4-8 Math Exam.

I am exceptionally knowledgeable in the principles of 21st century macronutrient-/micronutrient-balanced Human Nutrition. These have been used along with my strong Organic Chemistry and Nutritional Biochemistry background to create an international food pyramid after having conducted extensive research on the most micronutrient-rich global eating patterns that have contributed to both robust health and longevity. Regular adherence to these practices has provided me with consistently high energy and focusing ability, both of which have been major contributors to my success as a tutor. Based upon sharing the aforementioned knowledge and in addition to my ability to foster the development of heightened critical-thinking abilities during tutoring sessions involving General, Organic, or Biochemistry, I am a particularly valued asset to those students who aspire to become doctors, dentists, pharmacists, physicians' assistants, psychiatrists or enter any specialty dealing with Neuroscience. My fact sheets, "The maximum mental health diet", are designed around the core principles embodied in my food pyramid and are offered to any client upon request at the first or subsequent tutoring session.

Organic Chemistry

As a health- and medically-oriented University of Illinois Professional Ph.D. Organic Chemist with a very attractive achievement to in-person fee ratio, I encourage direct reach outs from all across DFW. These will trigger quick responses leading to the needed actions to once and for all halt your current Organic struggles. Whether you attend UTD, SMU, UNT, TWU, TCU, UT-Arlington or any of the Dallas, Collin or Tarrant County Colleges, I'm there to help you succeed. I offer broad viewpoints when explaining Organic concepts, from having used them often at diverse chemical companies, having taught them at both 2-yr and 4-yr colleges, and having tutored many students in Organic 1 and 2. In fact, in more recent times I have become quite heartened to have successfully mentored a greater number of female students (many on a PREMED track) who have taken Organic as part of the requirements toward reaching their professional goals. During Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions I will assist Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 students with homework and in preparation for quizzes, unit and final exams. I accomplish these tasks by focusing on core General Chemistry principles and additional visualization techniques in order to train my students how to think critically so that they will be better equipped to understand reaction mechanisms to substantially cut down on unneeded memorization. Plenty of practice problems are provided both during sessions and in-between meetups. Students have typically derived benefits from my clear explanations with regard to the following areas: nomenclature, stereochemistry, chirality, conformational analysis, SN1/SN2 and E1/E2 reactions, alkene and alkyne addition reactions, organometallic chemistry, thermally or photolytically-promoted ring closures or openings involving unsaturated compounds, 4n+2 cycloaddition reactions (Diels-Alder), electrophilic and nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions, enolate reactions, free radical reactions, reaction mechanisms associated with a variety of funct

I have multiple SAT resources which can be used from the very onset to diagnose students' particular strengths and weaknesses in GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA and TRIGONOMETRY. Keeping in mind that in a good many instances both ALGEBRAIC reasoning and GEOMETRIC concepts are brought into play within the same SAT MATH problem, the best skill building strategies on simulated tests can then be modeled and implemented in order to improve student achievement. I will also help more than adequately prepare those students who are planning to take the SAT CHEMISTRY subject test.

The Chemistry guru!

Another awesome session down! Without Dr. Bruce I’m not sure where I would be. I am 100% sure I have found the hidden gem of tutors. The knowledge, the material, the explanations everything is amazing. This is for my gen chem 2 class and I’ll be using him for many chemistry classes to come. I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Bruce he is the best!

Hi Anthony, First of all, thank you so much for your updated (from earlier-on comments) feedback. Secondly, I am very gratified to know that I have thus far made such a profound difference in your performance in General Chemistry 2 at TCU and look forward to your successfully completing this course under my continued guidance. I can't wait to begin supporting you in your year's journey through both Organic 1 and 2, which will be very vital courses along the pathway to achieving your Premed aspirations. Dr. Bruce

Awesome Tutor

Another awesome session with Dr. Bruce. Who has been extremely helpful in my Gen chem 2 class. First off his knowledge of chemistry is crazy. He was broken things down for me verbally, visually, and using real life situations. He is extremely patient and answers every question I ask. I can’t begin to express my gratitude for Dr. Bruce. He has helped me so much in just the few sessions we have had and I can’t wait to grab all the information I can from him going forward. Highly recommended if your looking to better your chem knowledge!!! I’m finally start to get the hang of this chemistry thing! Thanks Dr. Bruce

Great at explaining- very in depth and thorough.

Dr. Bruce is extremely patient and very detailed when explaining understanding for concepts. Very lucky to have found him to help me excel in organic chemistry. Without a doubt will utilize his services in org 2.

Tutor responded:

Hi, Olivia, Thank you very much for your recent review. You got right to the point in as few words as possible in capturing my attitude and style, both together having played major roles over a long stretch of time in my effectiveness as a tutor for various Math courses, AP Chemistry, General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. For Organic, in particular, it is quite important to explain concepts in a very detailed and in-depth fashion, since a good many Organic students (such as yourself) are going into some aspect of medicine and during their careers will have to resort to critical, diagnostic thinking on a regular basis. As such, I will continue to explain new concepts to you in that same thorough vain when you've moved onto Organic 2. Dr. Bruce

Knowledgeable and very patient

I am starting to prepare for the PCAT exam Dr. Bruce is a wonderful and makes understanding the material easier since we did begin with the General Chemistry section of my prep book

Manya , 19 lessons with Bruce
Tutor responded:

Hi Manya, Thank you very much for your recent feedback. As we proceed through the General and Organic Chemistry sections of the PCAT and into all Math sections I hope to continue in that spirit of making the material easier to grasp. Dr. Bruce

Excellent tutor!

Dr. Bruce is always helpful and works hard to help my daughter succeed! He has worked with her on Chemistry and Pre-calculus and explains the subject in a way that is easy for her to grasp.

Hi, Candace, Thank you very much for your recent feedback. You are absolutely correct in that my goals have been to help your daughter succeed with both her Chemistry (going back to last Spring) and Precalculus (currently) by explaining every concept in a clear and step-wise manner. I've also been quite impressed in terms of how prepared she has been for every session and with a clear sense as to what she wanted to accomplish each time. Dr. Bruce

Very knowledgeable

Today was our first session and my son was very impressed. He stated that Bruce showed him multiple ways to master geometry. My son also is now interested in getting lessons for chemistry as well. We look forward to ongoing sessions with Bruce.

Hi Travonda, Thank you very much for your most recent feedback. As usual, I was delighted that my implementing multiple methods of instruction helped your son acquire a much firmer grasp of the Geometry subject matter that we covered. I take the same approach with Chemistry, so I'm happy that you have placed your trust in me to desire that I continue to work with him for ultimate success with his Pre-AP Chemistry, as well. Dr. Bruce

Helped me for months through Gen Chem 2 and MCAT Chemistry

Dr. Bruce is very patient and always prepared for lessons. He helped me specifically with Gen Chem 2, which he has taught before so he is very familiar with the course structure and material. He explains hings very clearly, writing in my notebook and showing me pictures. It is definitely best to work with him over a period of time rather than just one or two lessons before a test and to come to the lessons with some of your own questions and materials and a notebook. He is good at finding the mistakes I made in problems and guiding me to the right path. He always brings in relevant articles to his many interests as well which I enjoyed and found interesting. Thank you for boosting my chemistry confidence, Dr. Bruce!

MELANIE, 12 lessons with Bruce

It was a pleasure to have guided you through not only your MCAT Chemistry preparation but also your 10-week summer Gen Chem 2 course at UT-Arlington. Best wishes for acceptance into a quality Medical School program and thank you, once, again, for having placed your trust in me. Dr. Bruce
