Hi, I'm Naomi! I'm an Education major with a Commercial Music minor going into my second year at the University of North Texas Honors College. I graduated from Greenville Christian School in 2024 ranking 3rd in my class with a 4.3 GPA and started college with 32 dual credit hours. I earned the full-ride Terry Scholarship, which is given to students with strong academics and leadership skills.

I first got interested in teaching while babysitting a few years back, where I didn't want to just "watch" the child, but teach them as well. I found I had a natural way of connecting with children and making learning fun, and I taught the 3-year-old child basic reading and math, just as I was taught by my father when I was 3 years old. This led me to volunteer with elementary schools and children's museums through church, community programs, and the Terry Scholar Organization at UNT.

I understand that all students learn in their own way, and I adjust my teaching style to fit each student's needs. My teaching experience includes:

- Tutoring high school math in-person
- Working with Teach for America's Ignite Fellowship teaching 3rd grade reading and phonics
- Helping 3 students at once, 4 days a week, 45 minutes each day
- Creating lesson plans that are both effective and fun

I can help with any elementary or middle school subject! I'll be tutoring with Ignite again this fall, but I'm looking for more tutoring opportunities because I enjoy it and it gives me valuable experience for my future teaching career. I'm patient, enthusiastic, and organized, creating a learning space where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence.

I'm committed to helping students succeed, so please share any resources or ideas you have. I respond quickly and am easy to reach. Feel free to contact me with questions or to set up a lesson!

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

While also in high-school (11th grade), I was a tutor for high-school math subjects such as Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry. I tutored for about a semester.
Grammar

Grammar

I studied grammar extensively throughout my Honors English education from middle school through high school. My coursework included vocabulary words, SAT root words, and proper academic writing structures. I always maintained A+ grades in these challenging courses, demonstrating my strong grasp of English grammar rules. In my dual-credit English classes, we focused heavily on proper grammar usage across different writing styles. My experience with grammar quizzes and formal writing assignments has given me the skills to explain grammar concepts clearly and help others improve their writing mechanics.
Phonics

Phonics

I taught three 3rd grade students 4 days a week. I went over topics such as open and closed syllables, tch/ch/, dge/j/, Vowel Consonant Consonant (VCC) patterns, long and short vowel sounds, ending patterns, r-controlled vowels, and much more. We also read short stories and played quiz games with programs such as Blooket to test their knowledge in a fun way. I would then take the information I received from their results to tailor my lessons to fit each individual student to help them succeed.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have been proofreading and editing my peers' written work since my time in Honors English classes. We covered MLA formatting, academic writing, and analyzing classic novels in depth. In my dual-credit English courses, I learned proper citation in both MLA and APA format, along with various proofreading and editing techniques. Grading was very harsh in these classes, which taught me to be extremely careful with details and directions. I also have experience with Chicago formatting from music-related research projects at UNT, giving me a well-rounded background in different citation styles and text editing approaches. In my previous teachers' words, they have told me, "you are not afraid to "tear their (referring to my classmates) essay up,"" meaning that I will do my very best to catch every error and help reword certain sentences so the individual can both improve and LEARN to improve their paper, and any future papers.
Writing

Writing

I had been in Honors English ever since middle school. We went over vocabulary words, SAT root words, MLA formatting, academic writing, and reading and analyzing classic novels. I always ended each semester with an A+, and in 12th grade, I took two semesters of dual-credit English, where we greatly covered proper citation in both MLA and APA format, different ways of writing, proofreading, editing, and much more. Grading was very harsh in that class, and you had to be sure you were very good at following directions. I finished both semesters with an A+. I also have some experience with Chicago formatting from writing music-related research projects at UNT.
