Hi! My name is Shreya. I’m an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill majoring in Economics and Statistics and minoring in English. I have a strong background in math, statistics, and analytical/essay writing. Over the past several years, I’ve worked with students across a range of levels in Algebra I and II, Calculus I, introductory statistics, and econometrics, as well as essay writing and revision. I’ve also spent a lot of time writing and revising essays in college, which allows me to confidently help students improve their diction and syntax, overall structure, and the strength and clarity of their arguments.

My tutoring experience is primarily one-on-one, working with middle school, high school, and early college students in both short-term and ongoing settings. I strongly believe that tutoring works best when it’s individualized, so I create lesson plans tailored to each student’s specific needs, goals, and pain points. Some students come in needing help reviewing core concepts, while others want targeted support on homework, exams, or specific topics they feel stuck on. In math, I focus on building intuition and confidence, not just getting to the right answer. In statistics and econometrics, I emphasize understanding what the math means and how to interpret results. For essays, I help students brainstorm, organize ideas, refine arguments, and polish language so their writing feels both clear and confident. I try to be as flexible as I can, offering more sessions leading up to exams and projects.

My approach is completely judgment-free, and I make it a priority to create a friendly, comfortable environment where students feel safe asking any question at any time. I know that math and writing can feel intimidating, especially if a student has struggled in the past, so I focus on meeting students exactly where they are and moving forward at a pace that works for them.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have over three years of experience teaching Algebra 1, helping students master foundational topics such as linear equations, inequalities, graphing, systems, and basic functions. I’m currently studying economics and statistics in college, which gives me a strong mathematical foundation and a clear understanding of how early algebra skills support future success in math. I focus on strengthening core concepts through structured, individualized lessons tailored to each student’s learning pace and needs.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have over three years of experience teaching Algebra 2, including topics such as quadratic and polynomial functions, exponentials and logarithms, rational expressions, and systems of equations. I’m currently studying economics and statistics in college, which gives me a strong foundation in algebraic reasoning and problem-solving. I help students connect concepts across units so they can approach exams with confidence rather than memorization. My lessons are structured, individualized, and judgment-free, with a focus on clarity, consistency, and long-term understanding.
Econometrics

Econometrics

I have a strong background in econometrics through advanced coursework and economics research experience, with particular strength in both theoretical foundations and applied methods. I help students understand core concepts such as rules of summation, mathematical proofs, statistical intuition, and model assumptions, as well as practical tools including simple and multivariate regression, dummy variables, and differences-in-differences models. I also support students in implementing econometric methods in R and Stata, interpreting output, and connecting assumptions to estimators. My approach focuses on clarity, structure, and intuition, helping students feel confident working through problem sets, exams, and applied projects.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have extensive experience helping students improve their essay writing across a range of subjects, from humanities and social sciences to analytical and research-based papers. I work closely with students on structure, argument development, clarity, diction, and syntax, helping them express their ideas more effectively and confidently. Rather than rewriting work for students, I focus on teaching transferable writing skills they can apply across assignments and classes.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I’m a college student studying economics and statistics with a strong foundation in mathematics and experience tutoring students at different levels. Prealgebra is a critical stage where many students struggle, often due to gaps in foundational understanding rather than lack of ability. I focus on strengthening core skills like arithmetic, variables, and problem-solving through individualized, structured lessons tailored to each student’s learning style. My approach is patient, judgment-free, and designed to build confidence while helping students succeed in their current coursework.
