About Mr. John

Bio

Upon graduation from college with a Mathematics BA degree, I taught K-8 for five years in EVERY subject possible, including handwriting (script), religion, photography, skiing, and many other extra-curricular activities. During this time I obtained my Masters degree in Education.

Upon graduation from college with a Mathematics BA degree, I taught K-8 for five years in EVERY subject possible, including handwriting (script), religion, photography, skiing, and many other extra-curricular activities. During this time I obtained my Masters degree in Education.

Unable to make a viable living at teaching, I moved into computers, working my way up from programmer to senior business analyst and project manager. I still loved teaching. So if my role did not have training tasks (like instructional design), I would get night jobs at the local community college or Vo-Tech teaching math and/or computers.

My experience qualifies me. A class of third graders went from a 20% (national average) understanding of arithmetic concepts on standardize tests to 80% in less than nine months. My eighth grade classes tested out at 11th grade 6 months on the Iowa Standard (National) tests. They were likely higher, but that's as high as the test went. I had several exceptional fifth and sixth grade students excelling in high school geometry and trigonometry. Former students would call me on the phone to tutor them for their college calculus classes. That was a challenge ... because it was on the phone! But we were ALWAYS successful.

I was, and am, the catalyst. But it's the students who put in the effort and concentration to make it happen. Are you that kind of student?

What are your goals? How will you accomplish them? What's your payoff upon achieving these goals? Does that excite you?

I will help you internalize the concepts, tools, and confidence so YOU can get yourself where you want to go! We will work as a team to accomplish everything you need.

But if you don't have 100% commitment to this process, I am not the tutor for you. You should expect (and will get) that kind of commitment from me. If you have it too, we will work very well together.
