I am a software developer with seven years of professional experience working with Java, AWS, Terraform, databases, Linux containers, CI/CD, and other backend & cloud technologies. My Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (and minor in Mathematics) gave me the foundation for my career, but much of what I can offer students comes from years of applying those concepts to real enterprise-level development. I understand both the academic side of programming and the practical problem-solving skills needed to become a confident developer.
While I have not worked as a professional tutor before, teaching and collaborative learning have been recurring parts of my experience. In college, I regularly participated in and led study groups where we worked through programming concepts and assignments together. More recently, I have helped my sister-in-law with college-level coding coursework. In my professional career, I have also spent years working collaboratively with other developers, explaining technical concepts, troubleshooting problems, reviewing code, and breaking complicated systems into manageable pieces.
My approach is to help students understand WHY something works rather than simply giving them an answer that works. Programming can become frustrating when one missing concept makes everything else seem confusing, so I like to identify that gap, explain it in straightforward terms, and then work through the problem collaboratively. Whether a student is learning programming for the first time, struggling with a computer science course, debugging a project, or preparing for technical interviews, my goal is to help them develop the reasoning skills to solve the next problem independently.
