Hello! My name is Laura. I graduated from Austin College with a B.A. in English. I have an M.A. in Art History and Visual Culture and am currently finishing up my Ph.D in Philosophy, Aesthetics and Art Theory at IDSVA. I love to learn and I think this is partially what makes me a strong educator, as I want students to be excited and enjoy the material! With 15 years of experience in public education, I have an extensive background in teaching students across a wide range of ages, abilities, and academic settings. Throughout my career, I have taught various English courses, as well as, Art 1, AP Art History, and Dual Credit Art Appreciation. I am also an adjunct college instructor.
In addition to my classroom experience, I have provided individualized tutoring to students from kindergarten through 12th grade and have experience teaching and supporting adult learners at the collegiate level. I am comfortable and confident teaching in both online and in-person environments. I love creating lessons that are engaging and enjoyable, but understand the importance of remaining flexible and adapting to student needs.
I believe that learning happens when students feel supported, engaged, and comfortable taking risks. I pride myself on creating a positive, encouraging, and stress-free learning relationship where students can build confidence, all while developing their skills and reigniting their love of learning.
