I have been in education for over 13 years, having taught 1st, 2nd, and 5th grades. I am also a Certified Dyslexia Practitioner. I have successfully taught a wide range of students, including students with: dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and autism, as well as English language learners. I work weekly with students in all of these categories, as well as general education students. These diverse experiences have added to my skill set and provided me with many tools for differentiating my teaching for a great variety of student strengths and needs. My dyslexia work with students is based on Orton-Gillingham methods, which are research-based and proven to yield results. I love the impact I can have when teaching students one-to-one! I have an excellent set-up for distance learning, and have honed my technology skills to provide learning opportunities that are comparable with in-person teaching. I am knowledgeable, results-driven, and have a sense of humor. I very much enjoy helping students to reach their full potential!

While I do offer tutoring in math, my primary focus tends toward reading. The early grades are critical for establishing a solid foundation in phonics and reading. I enjoy teaching reading with an emphasis on decoding, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension using authentic text, as well as offering a variety of other activities where appropriate. Preparing elementary students for standardized testing in reading is also something I do enjoy.

When learning is challenging, students can be reluctant. I connect well with my students and use warmth and humor to put them at ease! My ratings underscore my success as a tutor, and I welcome the opportunity to help your child be successful as a learner.

Patient, Great Teacher, Flexible

Ms L is a great teacher! She works with Aida and adjusts accordingly depending on her mood and attention span. Highly recommended. Aida has 100% on her spelling and comprehension tests since working with Ms L, compared to less than 50%. I’m so grateful for Ms L.

She is patient and good with redirection. My son has ADHD and dyslexia and she is very good at redirecting his attention to the task at hand and praising him for when he does a good job.
