I am qualified to tutor Mandarin Chinese based on my cultural background, educational background, teaching experience, and learner-centered instructional approach. I grew up in China and speak Mandarin fluently; I hold a background in Psychology, which has strengthened my ability to understand how students learn and adapt instruction to different learning styles. While I may not hold a formal teaching license, my academic training and language proficiency provide a strong foundation for effective tutoring.
I have experience teaching Mandarin through one-on-one tutoring during my college for three years, translating for a travel agency, and also working in the International Student Office at my graduate school. I like to focus on clear pronunciation, practical vocabulary, and real-life communication. My tutoring approach is structured yet flexible, combining guided practice, repetition, conversational exercises, and contextual explanations to help students retain and apply what they learn. I tailor my methods to each student’s goals, pace, and confidence level.
In my free time, I have also been professionally trained in salsa dancing for 8 years. I also taught salsa dancing in a local studio for two years, led corporate events and taught salsa dancing as well as offering private lessons. I can teach salsa dancing as both a lead and a follow, which gives me a very unique advantage to help both leads and follows to learn effectively. I also like to make salsa dancing lessons enjoyable and fun for my students.
