In my introductory economics courses at TCU, I was known as a “great teacher and a great person.” 30% of my students in microeconomics chose me for macroeconomics, while more couldn’t get in.
In my first job with an undergraduate degree in chemistry, I was a tech rep selling complex specialty chemicals. In those ten years, I learned much about real-world economics and, more importantly, how to listen. In graduate school at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, I learned from amazing professors and earned an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in Economics. As a consultant, I applied what I learned and learned even more.
I taught introductory micro and macroeconomics as an adjunct professor from 2005 to 2008, and again from 2016 to May 2025. I taught in-person predominately, online only in the pandemic. I explain difficult topics clearly, with good visual aids and examples. Through questions and observation, I pay close attention to how well students understand the ideas, always asking questions, listening, and watching, ready to clarify, repeat and challenge.
In tutoring, our productive sessions will be focused on your individual needs and goals, well-organized and put you on a track to succeed. We will decide our topics/agenda together in advance of each session and determine what should be done between sessions. I will also provide you with written explanations and online suggestions as appropriate.
I will challenge you at your speed. I will explain ideas to you, and you will explain them back to me. We will apply them to questions of increasing difficulty. I will never provide the answers, but will lead you on the path to them. Of course, our goal is that you won’t need the help. In short, I will help you become a better student.
