Hi, I'm Jacob! I graduated with Honors at the University of Texas with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a minor in Philosophy of Law. My passion for literature and academics was inspired by the teachers I had growing up. I was always fascinated with the library and its many wonders, but my teachers' abilities to connect with the written word, and relate it to the students was always my favorite part of learning. It's what inspired me to pursue education, and after graduating I moved to South Korea to share that passion for English literature with students from all over the world!
While teaching internationally, I worked in one-on-one tutoring sessions, both in-person and online, through two-hour classes with multiple activities. I led a broad scope of lessons, catering to different lessons for different students: vocabulary exercises for one, handwriting and cursive challenges for another, and full-on AP/college-level literature studies for others still. My students also varied in age, with simple reading comprehension tests for elementary-level students (first to sixth grade) to ACT/SAT prep and college application essays with high school students (ninth to twelfth grade).
With all of my students, I found the best practice to be a fully personalized lesson plan structure: starting with assessments to gauge their current skill level, and then introducing guidance and practice to make sure they excel and achieve the next level. Different students have different needs, and it's my duty to work with the student, and the parent, to find success! I am happy to answer more questions, or schedule a session any time – let's learn!
