With a degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland Global Campus and studies in Physics and Applied Mathematics at Baylor University, I bring both depth and versatility to my tutoring approach. I have eight years of experience as a Software Engineer and currently serve as an adjunct faculty member at the National Cryptologic University, teaching Introduction to Linux and Bash Scripting for Analysts, where I’ve taught through one-on-one sessions, group workshops, and informal tutoring. My experience primarily involves working with young adults and informal peer tutoring at the collegiate level, though I’m open and enthusiastic about teaching students of any age. My passion for teaching runs deep, inspired by my mother, who was an educator across all levels for 34 years before her recent retirement.

My teaching methodologies focus on practical, hands-on learning with real-world applications. I use active recall techniques and spaced repetition to help students build lasting retention of complex material. For programming and software topics, I guide students through live coding exercises and interactive problem-solving, making abstract concepts concrete. My goal is to not only equip students with technical skills but also to foster their confidence and curiosity. I look forward to sharing my expertise and helping students reach their full potential. Thank you, and looking forward to working with each of you as we enrich your learning experience and broaden your knowledge base!

C++

C++

I have spent the past four years doing capabilities development for embedded systems, primarily working in a C++ repository of over 60,000 lines. Recently, I have implemented unit, regression, and system testing for the entire repository using a combination of CMake Tests and GoogleTest/GoogleMock framework.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I work professionally as a software engineer specializing in embedded systems development for the Department of Defense. I earned my B.S in Computer Science from the University of Maryland Global Campus, focusing on the Java programming language. I work consistently with C, C++, and some Assembly (MiPs and ARM) in my career. Looking forward to working with you all!
Data Structures

Data Structures

I have over eight years of experience as a software engineer, specializing in optimization of algorithms and have vast experience working with various different data structures across a variety of enterprise and specialized projects. This includes knowledge regarding computational complexity of the most common operations for data structures (insertion, deletion, lookup), as well as the practical implementations for the most commonly seen and used data structures as well as the more esoteric ones.
Linux

Linux

I have been certified to teach Introduction to Linux and Bash Scripting for Analysts by the National Cryptologic University. I have taught over 400 students, civilian and military, these courses. I also use Linux as my daily environment in my career.

Exceptional tutor

Jarrod is amazing, if I could give 10 out of 5 stars I would. He's brilliant, very professional and patient and has magically made physics make sense to me. He helped me study for an exam I fell behind on and was flexible, organized and encouraging. I highly recommend Jarrod and will to all my friends. He makes sure you actually know the information and will take the time to explain concepts and give study tips no matter how long it takes you to get it. I will never use another physics tutor and now I feel good about a subject I never thought I would be able to understand. Can’t recommend him highly enough.

Tutor who makes programming fun

Aarya has taken programming lessons under different teachers but for the first time said that Jarrod made it fun “hilarious were his actual words”. He seems to look forward to his lessons even during the summer and is learning a lot. I think it says a lot about any teacher who can make difficult subjects enjoyable.

Great Teacher!

Great teacher went over all the concepts. I wanted to review and took time to question me to further my understanding with these concepts.

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

Jarrod helped my son with a college MIS Information Systems class to prepare for a test. He came well prepared and helped my son understand concepts. We will definitely be using Jarrod again.
