I prefer to tutor in a face-to-face environment so that I can be better able to see what the student is doing on their paper and have a better idea of where their level of understanding of the material is. Text-messaging, email, etc. are acceptable, but it can take a little longer to make sure that the student and I are understanding each other, but more particularly, the problem they are working on.
