I worked as a database application support specialist for years and before that a computer applications programmer. My enthusiasm for math came from my teachers in secondary schools and college despite the fact that I studied computer science as my major in college. I achieved my goals for college, a career in a popular field, and later of becoming a credentialed teacher/tutor in math. I have taught and tutored high school students as well as middle school students in algebra 1. For students to learn to solve real life problems using linear equations and graphs is interesting and challenging. Comprehension of the concepts are essential to success in subsequent subjects, namely, geometry, algebra 2, and advanced higher level math.

Algebra 2

I assisted and guest taught Algebra 2 for the entire year at a south bay high school. Besides topics such as Matrices and Logarithm, graphing of polynomials and functions, solving for real and complex zeroes call for a tremendous amount of analysis. I can help the student master these skills with careful examination of the clues and signs.

Mandarin is my first language. I have been bilingual since college and am fluent in both English and Mandarin in speaking, reading and writing. I have taught adult ESL classes in a couple of Chinese churches and children's Bible classes to children of all ages with some of them speaking only Mandarin. Setting some practical language learning goals and achieving them while having fun can be exciting for both children and adults.

As an ESL student in high school, I struggled with reading and writing. In college, however, the course in English composition helped me improve my writing skills by leaps and bounds. My teacher encouraged me to write. With her tirelessly grading my work and my correcting and rewriting, I developed new writing skills to handle the writing in college and throughout my career. I have recently completed 4 years of tutoring in reading and one summer on writing with a now 8th grader with good results. In the past, volunteer ESL teaching with adults was also my passion.

I have taught Geometry to students with different learning styles and needs. I would like to identify the student's learning style and use different learning strategies to generate a dialogue. Re-working the school lesson and finding the point of confusion allow the student to understand the concepts correctly and solve problems with simple guidance.

I have experience working with elementary students on reading various types of material: fables, short stories, poems, topical writings...etc. I can provide reading material or use school recommended material.

Trigonometry

Trig functions, laws, and identities can be tedious and hard to memorize. Memorization is not necessary if we learn the principles behind them. I want to help my students learn Trig with ease and without memorization.

Dedicated and extremely effective Algebra II Honors Tutor for High School Freshman at Top Private School!

Huey-Ming is an outstanding Algebra tutor. I first started using Huey-Ming to tutor my youngest son in Algebra when he was an eighth grader at Stratford Middle School in Sunnyvale. His overall grade went from a high-C to a high-B in this class at a very competitive middle school. He was able to score in the 99th percentile on the High School Placement Teat (HSPT) and get into Mitty. Now, she is tutoring him in Algebra II honors at Mitty and he is getting A’s again in his tests (up from B’s and C’s). She also keeps him motivated and focused. She just spent 2.5 hours last night tutoring him online for his final exam today, and requested photos from his math book chapter tests to prepare for the lesson. This shows her dedication to her students. The Wyzant online feature is fantastic, and makes it easier for everyone to get help. Thank you to Huey-Ming. I can see using her as a math tutor for my son’s entire high school career.
