Additional to my own students, during my undergraduate studies I had the honor of becoming one of the departmental tutors for all of the major music classes and teach for a total of more than 460 hours to more than 60 different students.

-Piano: I started playing the piano as my main instrument very intensively by ear and composing my own things at an early age. Then, I first studied 4 years of the Concert Pianist program (classical) at Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile, with two renowned pianists (Alexandra Aubert, Ewa Jaskinska), and where I won 1st place at the Piano Competition in 2011. Later on, I went overseas to study for 4 and 1/2 years in Commercial Music-Piano with remarkable, world-class, commercial/jazz musicians. There I had performed quite a lot of gigs, such as being the keyboard player of the jazz fusion ensemble, the vocal students' accompanist, and 50+ other performances. In 2018 I was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. In the summer of 2019, I was the Piano player of the Spark City Swing Machine band at the Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, NC, and played approximately 500 shows.

-Music Theory and Composition: In this area, I can work at a basic and advanced level for all the different types of arrangements and instrumentations. The best part of this is to put the language and theory of music into practice in ways that make sense and are exciting. I won the 1st place of the Orchestral Composition Competition at Trevecca Nazarene University for two years in a row (2019, 2020), earned the "Brainiac Award" at the same school in 2019, and was elected "Composer of The Year" for the 2019-2020 class. I also have two independent projects of recorded music as an original composer/producer-artist

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I started playing my main instrument, composing by ear, and producing recorded music from a very early age (about 10 years ago), which allowed my compositional skills to be one of my "closest to home" skills, as a musician and music theorist. Once I enrolled the Theory and Composition major at Trevecca Nazarene University, I then was able to win the 1st place of the Orchestral Composition Competition there for two years in a row (2019, 2020), and was elected "Composer of The Year" for the whole 2019-2020 class, at the same school. I was also one my college's departmental music tutors for 3 years, where I would aid with all of the theory, aural theory, and jazz theory students, provide extensive help with notation, and other areas such as analysis, part-writing, etc. --in total, I had tutored more than 60 different students for more than 460 hours. I must say that every single of these experiences, my concert pianist background, being a contemporary and jazz musician, and other experiences that I may not remember right now, significantly affect the quality and expertise on the subject. I am pretty confident that the type of knowledge and feedback that I can provide can make sense and be beneficial to your journey as a composer, as well as professional.
Ear Training

Ear Training

I started playing my main instrument and composing by ear from a very early age, which allowed my aural skills to be one of my greatest strengths. I first had 4 whole years (8 semesters) of Aural Theory and Solfege education, and then 2 more semesters of Aural Theory at another higher education institution. At this last school, I became one of the departmental tutors for all of the major music classes, including Aural Theory (sight singing and ear training); and taught for a total of more than 460 hours to more than 60 different students. I have been told that I have relative perfect pitch.

Sight Singing

I sung in choir, started playing my main instrument, and composed music by ear from a very early age. This allowed my aural skills to be one of my greatest strengths. With that as a foundation, I first had 4 whole years (8 semesters) of Aural Theory and Solfege education, and then 2 more semesters of Aural Theory at another higher education institution. Knowledgeable, fun and a patient tutor

Samuel teaches my 10 year old daughter Piano. He is great at connecting with her ,understanding her level all while making it fun. He gages the lesson accordingly and gives importance to the basics. At the same time, he challenges and pushes her in a way that works for her. He is also very good with booking the next lesson, giving a heads up before the lesson, showing up on time and sending out a detailed homework plan right after the session. I would highly recommend Samuel to anybody who wants to take their piano learning to the next level!

Excellent initial tutor for my 11yr son. He was patient, prepared, and knowledgeable. My son is looking forward to his next lesson and already has a set of homework to do in order to prepare.

Samuel is excellent!

I was having a problem with playing eight notes properly. Samuel was able to correct (for the most part - as I need to practice) the issue by explaining it in a way that I could understand and showing me exactly how to do it with both a metronome and by showing me how he counted and played on the piano. He is also a composer. When I mentioned two songs that I like, Samuel offer to try to compose these songs for me in a way that I can play them. That was very impressive and I really like Samuel's flexibility and also his determination to not just teach me how to play a song, but to know and understand the structure and the theory behind the music. I hope I am explaining this correctly, but it is close enough. Thank you again, Samuel!
