My name is Delane, often referred to as Blake. My students call me Professor B! I am extremely passionate about helping students maximize the first year college experience and beyond! I began my career in higher education in 2011 as a Financial Aid Counselor at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) working closely with students and families transitioning to and through college. I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, but I saw an immediate need to educate students and families PRIOR to...

My name is Delane, often referred to as Blake. My students call me Professor B! I am extremely passionate about helping students maximize the first year college experience and beyond! I began my career in higher education in 2011 as a Financial Aid Counselor at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) working closely with students and families transitioning to and through college. I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, but I saw an immediate need to educate students and families PRIOR to making the transition to college. In 2015, I created the TransitionU platform which include sessions/workshops, curriculum, public speaking, coaching, and student workbooks. My most recent publication is The Transition Guide & Journal: A Simple Tool for Students to Help Maximize the College Experience, 3rd ed. (ISBN-13: 978-1798768808). I returned to higher education in 2018 as a Professor teaching First-Year Experience courses at Houston Community College. 

I work directly with students and/or families making the transition to and through college focusing on 2 critical areas, the Academic Plan and the Financial Plan. Here is a list of the specifics topics I cover within each area.

I completed my undergraduate studies in 2011 and began working full time as a financial aid counselor 2 months later. I an expert in financial aid and I am well versed in the Admissions and Registration process. I currently work with high school students in various capacities revolving around Post-secondary Readiness. I will have obtained a Masters in Education Counseling by the end of 2016.
