I have served in education for 27 years in public school, charter schools, and private schools in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and now in Texas (in Texas for the last 10 years). I have taught primarily elementary grades in Reading, Language Arts, Grammar, Math, Science, and Social Studies. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Educational Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. My Texas certifications include: EC-6 Generalist (Elementary grades- early childhood through 6th grade), Science- Grades 4-8, and Superintendent Certification.
I have taught primarily grades 4-6 in science, reading, math, and social studies. I use a teaching approach that focuses on individualized needs of my students through frequent assessment and adjusting instruction according to the needs of the students. Small groups and individual conferences are common in my classroom. I currently tutor small groups of students in Reading by assisting them with reading passages and teaching them to look for details, learn test taking strategies and to read more effectively so that they can grow in their reading progress over time. Communication with the parent and developing rapport with the student are 2 essential elements in my tutoring approach.
