I have a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of North Texas and a Masters degree in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I was a teacher for 14 years and have now been in the corporate world for over 5 years. I previously taught 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I have had a lot of experience teaching students with ADD or ADHD throughout my teaching career. I am used to helping find strategies to help these students learn in the best way possible for them. I understand and appreciate every student's unique learning style and differences. I am accustomed to making accommodations to grade level curriculum to meet the needs of ADD or ADHD students with or without 504 plans.

I am certified to teach Early Childhood - 4th grade and 4th grade - 8th grade. I taught 3rd grade for 4 years (Math/Science), 5th grade for 4 years (Language Arts/Social Studies), 6th grade for 2 years (World Cultures/Geography, and 7th/8th grade for 1 year (AVID).

I have taught Language Arts for several years at the elementary level (3rd and 5th grade). This has included cursive writing in 3rd grade. Cursive is especially helpful for students with dyslexia because it helps them connect their letters as they write. I have materials for students to practice their handwriting at any age level.

I have had experience teaching phonics while tutoring students in lower grade levels to help them improve their reading skills. Being specialized in teaching Language Arts, I understand that phonics is an important foundation of reading and writing. I have several effective teaching resources to help students learn and practice their phonics skills. As a middle school AVID elective teacher for 5 years, public speaking was a major part of the curriculum to help prepare students for career and college readiness. Giving speeches, presentations, and debating topics with peers were common assignments in my classroom.

I taught elementary (3rd/5th) for 8 years and have 10 years teaching experience total. I have done private tutoring with Kindergarten-8th graders, specifically in Reading and also STAAR prep. I have access to many tutoring materials that I can supply for practice and teaching. I currently teach 6th grade Social Studies at a middle school in Lewisville ISD.

I have taught social studies at the elementary and middle school levels. I've taught 3rd, 5th, and now 6th grade. These social studies areas included: basic geography and local community, American History, and Contemporary World (geography and world cultures).
STAAR

STAAR

This will be my 10th year to administer STAAR tests as a teacher. I have helped tutor (mostly for Reading STAAR) during the school year and summer school settings, as well as in small groups and one-on-one. I have a plethora of STAAR materials and strategies to help students feel prepared and confident.

I have implemented and taught organizational skills to elementary and middle school aged students for 10 years now. Some of these skills include: self check lists, planners, calendars, binders, schedules, etc. Staying organized is imperative to a student's success, especially as they get into middle and high school.

I have been a teacher for 10 years now (elementary & middle school). Knowing and learning vocabulary is an important part of the reading process. I have taught several strategies for remembering and figuring out the meaning of words. I have many teaching resources that can be used in tutoring and practicing this skill.

Shannon has been tutoring my son for three years now. She is absolutely wonderful. She has lots of patience, very nice and super smart. She's always here on time and always very dependable.
