I am a 26 year veteran teacher who has worked extensively in the core subjects with children who have difficulty learning and are considered at risk. My experience and degrees are in the areas of Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Reading. I have extensive expertise in the areas of reading, math and the process of learning, and the development of language acquisition. Since I grew up in a mathematical household (my father being on of the top 10 engineers in the country) I have developed the ability to explain simple and complex math concepts to my students. This has allowed me to work with students from Kindergarten through high school.

I believe that all children are capable of learning if given the opportunity and the correct method of instruction. I use a hands on approach to assist children in making learning come alive and relevant to them. For this reason, I utilize the students strengths, and learning styles to assist them in overcoming their difficulty with a subject and become successful in the classroom.

I hold Master Reading, Special Education, and ESL certifications from Texas in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. In addition, I hold an elementary, and reading specialist certification from Michigan.

Patient and diligent

Extremely knowledgeable

She has pointed out a possible vision problem that my child may have. I have scheduled an appointment with an optometrist. So very lucky to have found her.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Maria is working with our 2nd grader to improve reading skills. We have seen improvement after only 2 lessons and can't wait to see how it progresses.

Very patient tutor

Maria is knowledgeable, she knows her craft. Much like a carpenter arriving to a job without his toolbelt, Maria is always ready with tools and she does not practice cookie cutter strategies. Most teachers in the classroom have one way to educate a child and if the child does not capture the data, they are left behind. My child is excited about his lesson with Maria, he feels the fun and nurturing exuded throughout each lesson. I highly recommend her for any child battling how to get up to speed quickly because now I have added my youngest child to her sessions and she has taken them leaps and bounds! My kiddos are very engaged in her sessions and are counting down to their hour with her it's really something to see! I can walk away knowing they are in the best hands educationally!!! I highly endorse Maria!

Excellent Support

Maria is very patient and friendly. Our 6 YO took to her and on days she comes for tutoring he asks what time she will arrive about 10X. She was also patient with my husband and me ...We are trying to understand what our child needs in order to be successful in school, Maria is helping us with that.

Truly Talented!

Maria has been tutoring our daughter for the past year and a half. When she began tutoring for math, my daughter lacked confidence, second guessed herself, and shut down regularly. Almost immediately, there was a complete turn around. My daughter now enjoys a challenge, and does exceptionally well in math. Maria has been such a positive influence. She makes tutoring fun, builds up self confidence, and pushes kids forward. My favorite thing about Maria is how intuitive she is. Within speaking to her for a few minutes about any sort of school-related issue, she has a strong idea where the disconnect is coming from, and how to address it. It is really amazing to listen to her in action! She is also very creative and can adjust how she is teaching something quickly, by intuitively knowing how your child needs to receive a lesson. Thank you Maria!

Knowledgable, patient, creative and super attentive

Maria's 1:1 style helped our son with learning difficulties, find his style of learning, and taught him the way that he understood. She is an amazing tutor and has gone above the call of duty with our son and daughter. She has given him the tools to excel and we are very grateful for her services.

A Tutor's Tutor

We first met Maria back in early 2014 when we were hoping to find someone to help our son with his handwriting skills. Upon reading the reviews from other parents, and more specifically seeing all of her qualifications, we quickly decided to take advantage of her expertise and supplement this goal with an added emphasis on academics as well. Maria has proven herself to be an asset beyond belief, and after only a few weeks we were able to see dramatic improvements in our son's performance. We have tried 4-5 other tutors from different agencies and no one has been able to match Maria's level of efficiency nor her level of achievement. Through her caring interaction with our son, she has brilliantly performed where all the others had failed. We highly recommend her without any reservations if you are looking for a person who can help your child with whatever their learning needs may be!

Great with students with ADHD

Maria has wonderful way of engaging my daughter during her tutoring sessions. We have just had 9 sessions and already my daughter has demonstrated progress in skill strategies for elementary math and is gaining confidence in her own abilities. We came from AR and she was in the Gifted and Talented program, but when we came to TX she was way behind in her math strategy skills. My daughter just got her Interim Report and she achieved a 99% in Math!!! I am confident that Maria is knowledgeable and is a "true educator" in her behavior modification/ motivating ability. My daughter looks forward to her tutoring sessions. I fully recommend Maria as an excellent tutor!!!
