I have worked as a professional software engineer for twelve years, currently as a senior engineer building distributed systems. I use the mathematics I want to teach in my daily work: algorithm design and complexity analysis, probability and statistical monitoring, and graph structures.
My teaching experience is professional rather than school based and spans those twelve years. I designed and ran a recurring pair-programming program for junior engineers, meeting one on one every other week, focused on how to reason toward a solution rather than on giving answers. I founded and led an internal lunch-and-learn series, choosing topics, preparing material and presenting to groups of mixed experience. I have also led teams of three to six engineers, onboarding people onto systems they had never touched. My approach is diagnostic: I find where the understanding actually broke, usually earlier than the assignment in front of us, and I ask questions rather than lecture.
I am seeking approval in mathematics from prealgebra through calculus, plus probability, statistics, discrete mathematics and linear algebra; in computer science for Java, Python, C, C++, Go, JavaScript and SQL, all languages I have written production code in; and in French, which I speak natively and was educated in through my master's degree. I am comfortable with middle school, high school and university students, online or in person around the Dallas area.
