I am an expert tutor in English writing, grammar, literature, and creative writing. With an MA in English and a Master of Fine Arts (a terminal degree) in Writing, I have been teaching and tutoring for fifty years, mostly on the high school, college, and adult education levels. I was instrumental in the founding of a K through 12 private school, Saint John of San Francisco Academy, which has been operating since 1995. Among my previous students are teachers, professors, nurses, a doctor, and a published fiction author.
I believe that every person has something valuable to say, and it is my pleasure to help him or her say it in a way that communicates clearly and effectively. My teaching style is encouraging, step-by-step, precise, and effective.

I myself am a successfully published author with four novels currently on Amazon and a fifth in progress. I tutor not only high school and college students, but writers of any age who want to write well and publish.

I also tutor in English as a Second Language and have taught ESL in the classroom for Region 9 Educational Service Center and Grayson College Adult Education and Literacy for a total of six years. My approach to teaching ESL focuses on listening, speaking, reading, and writing -- in that order, since this is the order of difficulty. In ESL as well as in every English skill, I strive to encourage and build confidence in students.

I hold a Master's degree in English and have taught essay writing on the community college level as well as in high school since 1989. I taught composition for seven years at De Anza College, for two years at Saint John Academy, for five years at Santa Rosa Junior College, for six years at Heald College, for seven years at Lord Fairfax College, and for one year at St. Nektarios School. I also homeschooled my son and daughter through high school; my son is a successful businessman, and my daughter is a Doctor of Audiology.

I am a Professor of English Literature with an MA in English and an MFA (terminal degree) in Creative Writing, the Novel. I have taught for fifty years, nearly forty on the college and adult levels. I am a published novelist with four successful books on Amazon. I love literature, and easily inspire a love and understanding of literature in my students.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Besides constantly speaking in public to teach over the past fifty years, and to perform in poetry and fiction readings, I have taught public speaking and interpersonal communications at Heald College for two years. I have also assigned and evaluated oral presentations in college level composition and literature and ESL classes for more than twenty-five years. I know that nearly everyone feels nervous and somewhat frightened when speaking in public, and I assist students in preparing well for oral presentations to give them greater confidence and poise.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

With a Master of Arts in English and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing, I have over twenty-five years of experience in teaching writing on the college level. In addition, I am a published author of both nonfiction and fiction works. I use freewriting, outlining, and listing as means of helping students to overcome writer's block and to avoid the kind of sabotaging that we writers can engage in when we have an important work with a deadline. These methods have worked for me over fifty years of writing and publishing, and they have worked for my students over many years.
