I have extensive experience in tutoring and teaching struggling students who may have cognitive and behavioral issues. I teach various elementary subjects, including reading and writing, and use traditional, as well as, Montessori methods for teaching different subjects. I believe in using best practice teaching methods, while recognizing the differences in each student.
I love learning math and I love teaching it to students of all ages. I use concrete materials to demonstrate math concepts which helps the students understand math well. Math is always one of the stronger subjects for my students and throughout the years most of my students enjoy math and are enthusiastic to learn.
Reading and Comprehension is important for students and many students struggle with this subject. Finding good resources and engaging conversations has helped ease the process of reading and comprehension for my students. For Upper Elementary students (grades 4-6) I provide tutoring in novel studies which includes comprehension, analysis, and help in the writing component. Reading should be enjoyable for all students and I strive to help students with that.
Elementary subjects are the foundation for further education and as a teacher and tutor I try my best to make sure whatever I teach sticks in the minds of my students. Handwriting and Spelling are so fundamental to a student's life and it must be taught well. Neat handwriting, both print and cursive, is not easy for some students for various reasons.
