After I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in English, I moved to China for one year to teach at a university. I taught Conversation and Listening to freshmen and sophomores. I loved getting to know the students, sharing cultures and helping them gain a better command of the English language. I returned to China again two years later and studied Chinese for two years. When I wasn't studying Chinese, I met new students on campus and helped them with their English as a friend and conversation partner.
We moved back to America and I began tutoring for the SAT as a new mom living in Princeton, NJ. My son's kindergarten teacher asked me to help her daughters prepare for the SAT. I really enjoyed coaching these girls and celebrating with them as their score climbed. I also joined the Friends of International Students at Princeton University and served as an ESL conversation partner to PhD students and visiting scholars.
We again moved overseas, and I began teaching English Literature at an international school. Quickly, moms of the students started asking me to help them learn English as a Second Language and my tutoring hours expanded.
Now we are back in the United States and I teach PSAT, SAT and ACT prep to middle and high school students through a learning center in China. We focus on the reading and writing portions of the exams. I am not qualified to help with the math portion. (My boys know to ask their dad for help with their math questions!). I also seek out international friends to learn together about language and cultures. I have been a learner of a foreign language and a teacher of a second language which uniquely qualifies me to understand and connect with ESL learners. I am qualified to tutor both online and in person.
I would love to help you reach your potential!
