Dear Potential Students,

As a dual-degree MD-PhD candidate with a Master of Public Health (MPH), my academic path has required me to master advanced sciences and the exact strategies needed to beat standardized tests. Over the last seven years, I have tutored students one-on-one, including high schoolers aiming for top universities, college pre-meds facing tough science courses, and graduate students working through advanced data analysis. My own testing background includes passing the USMLE Step 1, scoring a 331 on the GRE (164 Verbal, 167 Quantitative), a 514 on the MCAT, a 2350 on the SAT, and a 35 on the ACT. Because of this, I teach from real, personal experience. Doing well on these exams is not just about memorizing a textbook, but about understanding how test makers structure questions and how to manage your time under pressure.

My approach to tutoring avoids passive lecturing because I want students to learn how to think through problems on their own. When working with students in tough subjects like biochemistry, neuroscience, or epidemiology, I use virtual whiteboards to sketch out ideas and break down complex processes into normal, everyday language. I also speak fluent Mandarin Chinese. This allows me to provide clear, bilingual support for international students who know their science well but get tripped up by the dense English terminology used in American STEM classes and exam passages.

Whether you are a high school junior trying to boost your SAT or ACT scores, a college student protecting your GPA in a difficult science class, or a pre-med applicant staring down the MCAT and medical school applications, I focus on giving you a clear, manageable roadmap. I tailor every session to your specific weak points so we can build your confidence and get your scores where they need to be. I really enjoy helping students figure out these tough subjects, and I look forward to working together to reach your academic goals.

Best regards,

Paul

Approved Subjects

Epidemiology

Epidemiology

Holding a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, I have extensive training in study designs, biostatistics, and data analytics. My background allows me to help public health and medical students easily navigate complex topics like odds ratios, confounding variables, and survival analyses. Having spent years tutoring advanced graduate-level concepts, I know how to teach students to critically evaluate clinical literature and excel in their coursework. I approach epidemiology by using real-world public health data and practical examples, transforming intimidating mathematical and statistical matrices into clear, logical steps. I also have real-world experience in the field as a case manager intern at StarCare working with disabled veterans before matriculating to medical school.
MCAT

MCAT

As a dual-degree MD-PhD student who scored a 514 on the MCAT, I have a deep understanding of what it takes to successfully conquer this exam and navigate the competitive medical school admissions process. My tutoring approach moves away from passive lecturing and instead focuses on teaching the exact passage-analysis and critical-thinking strategies required to excel on test day. Having mentored numerous pre-med applicants over the last seven years, I specialize in helping students bridge the gap between basic science facts and high-yield, complex scientific reasoning. Together, we will isolate your weak points, build your endurance, and demystify the test-makers' traps to maximize your score.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

My doctoral research as an MD-PhD candidate focuses directly on advanced neurobiology and cellular neuroscience, giving me a deep and current expertise in the field. I regularly tutor university undergraduate and master's students through challenging coursework involving neuroanatomy, synaptic transmission, and neural circuitry. Because this subject can quickly feel overwhelming, my teaching method relies on sketching out pathways visually and breaking down complex experimental data into clear, understandable concepts. I am passionate about making the intricacies of the nervous system accessible and helping you build the strong analytical skills needed to ace your exams. My primary focus in my lab's research is on animal behavioral testing, single nucleus RNA Sequencing -omics, and machine-learning analysis.
