I am a 4th year MD candidate at Texas Tech University who's going into ophthalmology. I earned a BS in Neuroscience from the University of Southern California, graduating with honors, and an International Baccalaureate diploma earned through international schooling in Brazil and the United States. My academic background is complemented by extensive research training through a Research to Prevent Blindness fellowship in ophthalmology.
My teaching experience spans curriculum design, classroom instruction, mentorship, and one on one coaching across multiple age groups. Most notably, I served as President of the Introduction to Research Elective at Texas Tech, where I designed and led a ten lecture curriculum for first year medical students focused on research methodology, data analysis, and scientific writing. This course combined didactic teaching with interactive workshops and individualized mentorship, connecting students directly to active research projects and guiding them through early scholarly output.
In parallel, I have significant experience teaching outside of medical school settings. I provided longitudinal laboratory mentorship to high school seniors, coaching them through experimental design, data interpretation, and presentation skills. This culminated in their successful placement at a school level research competition. I have also participated in structured outreach and mentorship programs for high school students interested in neuroscience and medicine, including leadership panels and live question and answer sessions.
Across these roles, I have taught students ranging from high school age through medical trainees, in classroom, small group, and individualized settings, over multiple years. My teaching approach emphasizes conceptual clarity, scaffolding complex material into accessible steps, and fostering intellectual independence while maintaining high expectations.
