I'm Kort! I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology (4.0 GPA) from Texas Tech University and a Master's degree in Environmental Science and Management (3.97 GPA) from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I am passionate about mentoring students and helping them achieve their educational goals.
I grew up in a family where teaching is the family business. My dad is a retired high school teacher, and both my mom and sister are currently high school teachers as well. They instilled in me a deep appreciation for the value of education from early on. My teachers have been some of the most influential people in my life, giving me the knowledge and tools to achieve my dreams. Throughout both my undergraduate and graduate education, I have worked as a tutor and teaching assistant. While I was an undergraduate, I tutored college chemistry and physics, and worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant for an intro biology lab course. I also volunteered to teach a high school course in environmental science. And in graduate school, I served as a teaching assistant for a biology lab, genetics, and earth science, independently leading sections of 10-20 students. These roles have given me experience working with a wide variety of students and course material.
My teaching style is centered around each student's personal needs and goals. I enjoy sparking students' curiosity and guiding them to finding the right answers themselves, rather than lecturing at them. I am very flexible and accommodating, always leading my sessions with a positive attitude. I look forward to using my skills and experience to help you succeed in whatever way I can!
