I loved Spanish since the first day of 7th grade when I started taking it. I lived in Chile for 16 months in the late 1990s, which is where I really learned how to speak Spanish, and when I decided to that I wanted to teach Spanish. I have a BA in Spanish Education from The University of Texas at Austin. I've taught Spanish in middle & high schools since January 2015. I have my Texas Teacher Certification for Spanish EC-12, English Language Arts and Reading 4-8, and ESL Supplemental EC-12. I also have a 120-hour TESOL Certificate from International Online Academy. I have tutored students in Spanish, English, and ESL since 2018, both online and in person.
I enjoy helping others improve their language skills. I love continuing my own learning as well, so I am currently enrolled in an online course for proofreading and editing in English. I have also volunteered helping adults learn English in my community.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking with my husband and dog, spending time with our cats, and drawing. I also enjoy reading, singing, listening to music, and watching TV in both English and Spanish, which helps me grow my own language skills.
I feel the best way to become bilingual is to speak the language you're trying to learn, so I focus a lot on getting over the fear of making mistakes and on having students speak the language. I'm a firm believer in the thought "practice makes perfect" and that we learn by our mistakes. I respect those trying to break out of their comfort zone who are trying to learn, so it is important to me to show that respect and admiration during tutoring sessions.
