I served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) for Electromagnetics and Signals & Systems. In addition to grading coursework, I held weekly online help sessions. Rather than simply presenting solutions, I worked through problems step by step with students, encouraging questions and making sure each step made sense before moving on. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching has been watching students who initially found concepts abstract begin to understand them intuitively through additional explanation and visualization.
My teaching philosophy centers on building understanding rather than memorization. I rely heavily on visual explanations because many engineering concepts become much easier once you can picture what is happening. In electromagnetics, for example, students often found coordinate systems confusing until we sketched the geometry together and explored why Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates each describe space differently. Once that mental picture clicked, the mathematics became much more approachable.
I’ve also learned that students naturally think in different ways. Some are most comfortable with algebraic manipulation, while others understand ideas best through diagrams and physical intuition. My goal is to identify which perspective feels most natural to you and build from there, rather than insisting on a single way of thinking.
Whether you’re preparing for an exam, catching up, or developing a deeper understanding of the material, I aim to create an environment where questions are encouraged and concepts are explored until they genuinely make sense.
