I taught in the classroom, tutored one-on-one, and volunteered to tutor at an after school program as well. My methods vary significantly depending on the needs of my students. Generally though, I prefer to allow my students opportunities to share what they know with me, walk through their concerns with questions/examples, and then give my student the opportunity to work through the problem on their own so that they are confident at the end of the session. My ultimate goal is for my students to be confident and capable by the end of the session with me.
