I have fifteen years of classroom teaching experience but have always loved helping students one-on-one in and out of the classroom. I have B.S. in chemical engineering and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and have taught chemistry, AP chemistry, and AP physics (and a little algebra and trig). I have tutored peers in high school, calculus students in college, and adults and high school math and science students in the evenings. My classroom teaching experience means that I can bring the best of classroom instruction and the best of one-on-one tutoring. I know tutoring from the teacher, student, and tutor perspectives. I was a high achieving National Merit Finalist as a student and I love working with high achieving students, but I have also taught and tutored all ability levels and find helping struggling students to find success to be very rewarding.

You'll find that I am caring, encouraging, and seek to understand where the student is having trouble. I don't just repeat the same confusing information. I find it effective to have students be as active as possible. I don't want students to just listen to me passively - that's what probably hasn't worked in the classroom! I ask lots of questions and I get students working problems so we can see where the trouble lies. I have so many ways of getting the idea across and helping to find where mistakes are being made that something will click. If students are willing to put in sincere effort, they will see results!
