Hi! I am Carlton and I am currently a science teacher and a graduate student! I enjoy seeing the joy in a student's face when the light bulb finally goes off and everything that seemed impossible to grasp now makes perfect sense. Also, I greatly enjoy watching the steady growth students have, even in the course of a session, and being a small part of helping students grow.
I have a unique educationally, as I currently have a bachelor's degree in the Biological Sciences and I attended medical school for three years at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Currently, I am working on my master’s degree in Biochemistry with an interest in Metabolic Pathways and Cell Signaling.
I am currently certified to teach all science subjects in my state for grades 7 through 12 and currently teach Physiology and Physics. In the past, I have taught IPC, Chemistry, and Environmental Science in addition. Also, besides my experience teaching for the past 6 years, I have also tutored for both major companies and in private off and on for the past 15 years, focusing on math and science. I have worked in both 1-on-1 settings and with small groups while helping students prepare for the SAT, ACT, EOC Exams and individual course subject tutoring. In the past 4 years, mostly, I have worked with students from 6 grade upwards to students seeking their bachelor's degree, however I do have experience working with students seeking graduate degrees in the biological sciences.
I have worked with students from disadvantaged and diverse backgrounds and with students who have needs for accommodated learning. For example, I worked at the Aya Center in Durham, NC, which focused on children who have emotional and behavioral barriers to learning. Taking a small group of 3-5 students, I used methods such as playing games and activities to help the students learn, but have lots of fun while doing it!
Thanks for stopping by and seeing my profile! I hope you will consider me to be a partner in your academic growth! Onwards and upwards!!!

Excellent tutor!

Carlton has done a wonderful job helping my daughter with her Honors Chemistry this semester. We plan to use him for all future science classes. He is very patient and my daughter Mallory has enjoyed working with him very much. He is always on time (often we were running late) and because he explains things so well, he has frequently been able to help Mallory without needing the full hour. Carlton has been very accommodating of our schedule and was always able to fit Mallory into his busy schedule. I would definitely recommend him. So happy we found him.

Great interpersonal skills- very relatable with teens

My son looks forward to his lessons with Carlton. They've worked together for the past couple months on Chemistry; this helped raise my son's Chemistry grade by one letter from a low "C" to a "B".

knowledgeable, reliable, always providing insightful guidance and unwavering support

Carlton is an exceptional tutor with a deep expertise in Chemistry. His vast knowledge of the subject, combined with his ability to explain complex topics in a clear and approachable way, has been invaluable. My son is enrolled in an honors class with challenging material, yet he has consistently maintained an A, thanks in large part to Carlton's guidance. Carlton is genuinely invested in my son's success, going above and beyond by offering weekend sessions right before tests. His flexibility and reliability are unmatched. Additionally, Carlton has a unique ability to connect with teenagers, motivating my son to stay focused and excel. I highly recommend him, confident that he will play a crucial role in any student’s academic achievements. We feel incredibly fortunate to have him on my son’s team.

Super effective

Carlton has exceeded our expectations. He’s helped our son (freshman) go from a D to a B grade in Biology in a few weeks. They meet 1x per week for 1 hr. The rigor has helped and far more effective than me playing helicopter to help. Our son really enjoys the sessions and how Carlton is able to connect to him in a real way. Thank you!

There for his students

Carlton has been tutoring my son for a few months now. I love that he makes himself available for his students and is readily there for support them. He built a good relationship with my son and helps him grasp concepts properly versus just having a cursory knowledge. He genuinely cares and goes the extra mile. He has a good grasp of the subject matter which translates into the kids really understanding how things work. I have enjoyed his tutoring relationship with my son.
