Hello! I am a mathematics graduate student at the University of Houston, and I tutor students in mathematics from high school through college. I earned my B.S. in Math from the University of Texas at Austin, with a Computer Science certificate/minor, and my coursework included Calculus I-III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Real and Complex Analysis, and Topology. I have also worked with students preparing for standardized tests, including the SAT, where I scored a 790 on the math section.

My tutoring style is patient, clear, and focused on the problem. I try to identify where a student’s confusion begins, whether it is a missing algebra skill, a shaky definition, or uncertainty about how to start a problem. From there, I explain the idea in plain language, work through examples step by step, and then help the student practice similar problems until complete understanding. I enjoy helping students understand why a technique works, not just how to use it.

I have about three years of teaching and tutoring experience, including work as a mathematics tutor and teaching assistant at the University of Texas, where I helped students one-on-one, created example problems, and evaluated student work. I currently work at the University of Houston as both a Calculus II teaching assistant and tutor. In that role, I teach classes of about 10-20 students, tutor students individually, and grade homework, which gives me experience in recognizing common mistakes / appropriate teaching strategies.

I am happy to work with students who are catching up, aiming for a high grade, or preparing for an exam. I am especially strong at helping students prepare for tests by reviewing key concepts, choosing useful practice problems, and making specific plans of action. I can tutor online or in person, and I am available to help with subjects such as precalculus, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, proof-based mathematics, and SAT math preparation.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have received a 34 on the ACT, and have multiple years of experience teaching math.
Calculus

Calculus

I graduated from UT austin with a degree in Pure Mathematics, and was a TA/tutor for Calculus there for 2+ years. Calculus is my most tutored subject, and I excel at making sure students know what exactly what is needed.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I am a mathematics graduate student at the University of Houston and received my B.S. in Mathematics from UT Austin, where I completed coursework in discrete math, number theory, linear algebra, probability, data structures, and other proof-based courses. I currently work as a university teaching assistant and tutor, helping students with college-level mathematics both one-on-one and in small classroom settings. My background is especially suited for discrete mathematics because I have experience with proof writing, combinatorics-style reasoning, recurrence relations, logic, set theory, induction, graph theory, and algorithmic problem solving. When tutoring discrete math, I focus on helping students translate definitions into usable proof strategies, work through examples carefully, and prepare for exams by practicing common problem types.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I graduated from UT austin with a degree in Pure Mathematics, and was a TA/tutor for linear algebra there for 2+ years. Linear algebra is an especially theoretical subject, and I also have experience in teaching proof-based courses.
Physics

Physics

I am a mathematics graduate student at the University of Houston, and I received my B.S. in Mathematics from UT Austin, where I completed coursework in differential equations, linear algebra, numerical analysis, and other subjects closely connected to physics. I have experience tutoring high school students preparing for AP Physics, as well as broader experience tutoring and teaching college-level mathematics. My background is especially helpful for physics students who need support with algebra, calculus, vectors, rates of change, and setting up equations from word problems. When tutoring physics, I focus on helping students understand the underlying concepts, organize the given information, choose the right formulas, and practice solving problems step by step.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I am a mathematics graduate student at the University of Houston with several years of experience tutoring students in mathematics at different levels. I received my B.S. in Mathematics from UT Austin and currently work as a university teaching assistant and tutor, helping students one-on-one and in small classroom settings. For prealgebra students, I focus on building strong foundations in fractions, decimals, negative numbers, equations, word problems, and basic problem-solving habits. My tutoring style emphasizes clear explanations, guided practice, and helping students gain confidence before moving on to more advanced algebra topics.
Probability

Probability

I am a mathematics graduate student at the University of Houston and received my B.S. in Mathematics from UT Austin, where I completed coursework in probability, stochastic processes, numerical analysis, and proof-based mathematics. I also have research and presentation experience involving Markov chains and measure theory, which supports a deeper understanding of both computational and theoretical probability. As a university teaching assistant and tutor, I have experience helping students work through college-level mathematics one-on-one and in classroom settings. When tutoring probability, I focus on helping students understand sample spaces, conditional probability, independence, random variables, distributions, expectation, variance, and exam-style problem solving.
Real Analysis

Real Analysis

I am a mathematics graduate student at the University of Houston, where I have completed graduate coursework in Analysis of a Real Variable I and II. I earned my B.S. in Mathematics from UT Austin, where I also completed undergraduate Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Topology, Probability, and related proof-based courses. I currently work as a university teaching assistant and tutor, helping students one-on-one and in small classes with college-level mathematics including Real analysis which I specialize in. My tutoring approach for Real Analysis focuses on helping students understand definitions and build proof strategies via working through examples, counterexamples, and concrete problems.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I am a Mathematics graduate student who has experience in helping students get a higher score on the SAT. I received a 790 on the Math SAT section.

Knowledgable and patient tutor

Ethan helped my brother prepare for the SAT. Ethan was patient in listening to my brother's problems and effective in pointing out ways for him to improve. I would highly recommend Ethan to improve SAT test scores.
