About Lauren

Bio

Hi, I'm Lauren!

I taught Deaf & Hard of Hearing students at the K-12 level for a decade before switching full-time to interpreting. As a teacher, I taught Math and ELA as the teacher of record and supported students in inclusion settings in Science and Social Studies. I am heading but neurodivergent myself and understand the barriers to learning in education that often go unnoticed and needs unaddressed, and I'm happy to help.

I studied Communication Sciences and Disorders at Baylor with a concentration in Deaf Ed. and a minor in Sign Language Interpreting and graduated cum laude.

My certifications are...
Teacher: Deaf/HH EC-12, Art EC-12, Generalist 4-8
Interpreter: BEI-Basic

Note for Hearing Students:
I firmly believe that ASL is best taught by Deaf people. I am happy to tutor interpreting students who have been referred to me by a D/HH person who thinks I would be a better fit, so please let me know who recommended me when you reach out!

I studied Deaf Education in college, student taught at Texas School for the Deaf, then worked in a regional day program for the deaf for a decade. I still work in education as an ASL interpreter at the collegiate level and K-12.

I earned my BEI certification in 2016. I interpret in collegiate, medical, K-12, and other community settings, both in-person and virtually. I believe ASL is best taught by Deaf people, but I am willing to tutor interpreting students who were referred to me by someone who is D/HH and believes I would be a better fit.
