Approved Subjects

Accent Reduction

Accent Reduction

B.S. degree from Utah State University and graduate work from Northcentral University. I began tutoring in the 90s and began my own language services company. Thirty years later, I've helped hundreds of students improve their English so they sound more like native English speakers and less like foreigners. You will learn the differences between similar sounds and identify where the challenging areas are in your speaking through exercises, games, and music. I have a dynamic system that is not only fun but effective. Check out my tutor reviews about Accent Reduction!
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

B.S. degree from Utah State University and graduate work from Northcentral University. I love tutoring students to awaken their passions in creative writing! When I was in elementary school, I won the Reflections contest and went on to win the regional event. This was where I discovered that I have a natural gift for creative writing. My students explore what it is like to broaden their horizons and express themselves in descriptive and explorative ways while having fun.
English

English

25 years teaching English/ESL (Accent Reduction, Pronunciation, Speaking, Grammar, Reading, and Writing). I started out teaching English in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I lived for almost 18 years. I've taught all kinds of international populations from around the world, such as Spanish and Portuguese speakers, French, other Europeans, Asians (Korean and Chinese) Ukrainians, and Middle Easterners, among others. I know how to give a diagnosis on the English language learner and how to combat those "illnesses". Thus, I've become the "go-to" tutor for pronunciation. And because I'm a published author, professional editor, and proofreader, I'm a good choice for helping with Writing and Grammar.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

This is my top subject matter! My teaching experience: I started out teaching English in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I lived for almost 18 years. I taught all kinds of international populations from around the world, such as Spanish and Portuguese speakers, French, other Europeans, Asians (Korean and Chinese) Ukrainians, and Middle Easterners, among others. Then I moved back to the US and continued teaching at the corporate level. Finally, 3+ years in Mexico. I know how to give a diagnosis on the English language learner and how to combat those "illnesses". Thus, I've become the "go-to" tutor for pronunciation, especially for Spanish, Portuguese, and Asian populations since those are the students I've taught most over the years. Additional experience: I've owned a translation company and have been a translator, editor, proofreader, and copyeditor.

My goal is to prepare you with the tools you'll need to be successful when it comes to public speaking engagements and job interviews to put your best foot forward. We'll conduct mock job interviews and presentations until you acquire enough confidence to achieve your goal, whatever that may be.
Reading

Reading

How did you learn to read as a child? Most likely it was because you were read to by your family, caretakers, or teachers. It's no different now, and the way I teach is similar in many ways. I read to you and you repeat it, trying to imitate the pronunciation, intonation, and word patterns as best you can. We finish the reading passage and you tell me what you understood from what we read and identify the words you don't understand. In other words, you learn in a natural way, just like a child. You'll gain confidence, get more fluent in your reading, and get better. I'm an encouraging and caring tutor who'll make you look forward to our sessions and stay engaged.
Spanish

Spanish

Learn naturally with a bilingual gringa (American) who's lived almost half her life (22 years) in Latin America (Argentina and Mexico) and who has been a professional translator, language interpreter, and tour guide in Mexico. I'm not a native speaker of Spanish, but I'm pretty close since I've learned how to navigate life in Latin America starting from not knowing much at all to becoming fully fluent and conversational. I can teach anything from beginner Spanish to conversational levels, teach you verb conjugations, vocabulary, and good pronunciation in a way that you'll learn quickly and increase your love of the Spanish language and culture, just like I have. ¡Me encanta el idioma español!
Spelling

Great Experience with Dianne!

I had three sessions with Diane to prepare for a job interview, and I really enjoyed working with her! She was very patient, friendly, and easy to talk to. We practiced mock interviews, and she gave me great feedback on how to improve my answers. Since English is not my first language, she also helped me with my pronunciation and showed me better, more natural ways to express myself. I felt very comfortable working with her, and the sessions really helped me feel more confident and prepared for my interview.

Amazing Results in Just a Few Lessons

My daughter has made tremendous progress with her Spanish thanks to her tutor. Dianne is incredibly patient and takes the time to identify the areas that need the most improvement, then tailors each lesson to address them. After just a few sessions, my teen’s Spanish grade improved dramatically, and, more importantly, her confidence in the subject has grown as well. I truly appreciate Dianne's teaching style, encouragement, and ability to explain concepts in a way that’s easy to understand. I highly recommend her to any parent looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and effective Spanish tutor.

A great conversation

Today we talked more about using the subjunctive in Spanish. I asked about the use of might and may. I make a lot of mistakes, but she is very patient. I am retired and as I said she is very patient. I feel relaxed and comfortable with her. I look forward to our time together.
