I have 20+ years of classroom and private music teaching experience. I attended college for 5 years as a music major. I was principal flutist with the San Fernando Valley Symphony and lead alto saxophonist with the Sons of Thunder jazz ensemble. I am also a composer and conductor. Three of my students which I taught in 3rd through 12th grades have graduated from Julliard. Many others have become professional musicians. I am also happy to teach students that do not wish to become professional musicians. I have children of my own, so I know how to teach all ages: three through adult. My time-tested approach for beginners is that they learn proper hand position and posture first while playing their instrument from day one. After good habits are established in these areas, students can learn songs by rote. After that, music reading can be introduced.
