About Nagel

Hello Students,
My name is Nagel and I am an instructional aide in a middle school. I currently attend Grand Canyon University. I will be finished in 2018 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education with an emphasis in math, the reason why I chose to go to school was because I feel like it is my calling in helping students succeed. Before I started working at the middle school, I worked at a daycare and I was the Pre-k teacher. Since starting college I have made the Dean's and President's list. I created lesson plans based on the high reach learning program that fit the students ages 3-5. This year will be my 6th year working in the school district as and instructional aide, and it is the best job that I have had and is the reason why I chose to go back to school and get my degree in Elementary Education. Being an aide means that I am always helping students in the classrooms with what they need help with or simply don't understand. I have been nominated at work as staff member of the month because I go above and beyond in ensuring that my students get all the help they need when they do not understand something.
Tutoring to me means more that just teaching a concept that one may not understand; it is being able to connect with the student which will help them succeed. Being an aide has given me the knowledge and resources that I need that will guide me when tutoring a students. What I love about tutoring is that the student is able to have that one on one time and get the help they need. Just knowing that I am helping someone grow and understand a concept that they didn't before makes every thing worth it in the end. Being a tutor to me means that I am the one that is going to teach the student and help them understand and hopefully be able to help another person who may have the same problem.
Elementary math is something that I just love helping with. Elementary math just comes natural to me because I worked in a daycare and I helped the after school students with their work. My co-workers daughter needed a tutor to help her with elementary math and I stepped up and did my job to help her succeed. Needless to say, she learned more from me than she did in her math class, and passed the STAAR test.
My primary language is Spanish, and it had many benefits. Being fortunate to speak Spanish has been very helpful because I am able to help those who do not understand English and only speak Spanish. What makes me outstanding is the fact that I am the one who translates at work for the parents who do not speak English. When I worked at the daycare I taught Spanish to my Pre-K students every Tuesday and Thursday and I have also help middle schoolers with their Spanish homework.
When it come to reading, I know that it can be difficult at times and maybe even frustrating when you are reading a word and you just can not seem to say it the right way. No worries, we all struggle with things and the only way to get better is to practice. I am excellent when it comes to helping students with reading, especially because that was one of the jobs that I had to do in order for my Pre-K students to graduate and go to Kindergarten. I help out in a reading class and I do small group instructions, which requires me to do different activities when it comes to helping the students read.
When it comes to elementary in general I am a great tutor because I have been around it half of my life. I have taken all of my major courses and I am almost done, all I have is observations. The classes that I have taken have helped me better myself with more knowledge of all the elementary subjects in general. I make visits to elementary schools just to see how they teach certain subjects and I have been using those resources when I tutor outside of work. I am very knowledgeable of the information that is taught in elementary.
I am certified as a SpEd aide and I have had the privilege to work with students with autism and I have had the best experience. Just because a student is autistic, that does not mean they can not learn, but the truth is that every student can learn one just have to figure out what works best for that specific student. I will do whatever it takes to make sure that the students get exactly what they need and understand what they need help with.
If there is anything that you need or any questions that you may have, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

When it comes to elementary math, I love it! I have been tutoring elementary kids with their math work for quite some time! It is something that I enjoy doing and knowing that they are going to succeed because of the help that I give them makes it worth while!

Awesome and knowledgeable tutor

Nagel was prepared for my son on the first day. She is going step by step to build his confidence and ensure he knows the work for the STARR test this year. Because of Nagel I'm confident he will do so much better on the STARR test. She also looks over his weekly homework.
