I'm Dr. Chris H., and I graduated with my doctorate in music (trumpet and music history) from the University of Georgia in December 2017. I have much experience teaching trumpet and brass lessons, both individually and in groups. My experiences as a student and teaching assistant at large universities, and as a freelance musician/teacher have helped me hone my craft. I have been a two time finalist with trumpet ensembles at the National Trumpet Competition, a solo division semifinalist at the National Trumpet Competition, and a featured soloist with several orchestras/bands. The majority of my playing has been in the classical and orchestral genres, but I am experienced and well versed in jazz and commercial playing as well. I especially enjoy one on one mentoring and strive to create a positive, open learning environment. Helping someone progress musically is enjoyable and worthwhile. I also offer tutoring in music theory and history. I have extensive study of theory and history from my three higher education degrees in music.

Specific goals and plans are made for each student in lessons. I do not follow a "cookie cutter" approach in my teaching. There is regular focus on correct fundamentals, and playing material is culled from various methods, etudes, solos, etc. Once specific strengths and weaknesses are identified in each student's playing/study, we then create assignments and goals to improve exact areas.
