As a tutor, I love talking with students about their writing process and equipping them with tools to help them enjoy writing and feel confident as they tackle their assignments! As a tutor, I love talking with students about their writing process and equipping them with tools to help them enjoy writing and feel confident as they tackle their assignments! I primarily work with graduate students, many of whom who are pursuing degrees in social work or psychology, or non-traditional students pursing goals such as passing a literacy exam. I also work with law students.
NOTE: I do NOT help students prepare for the LCSW exam. I also tutor college students working on academic papers, personal statements/graduate school applications, and other projects.
My Background: I earned my Masters of Social Work as well as my JD in 2013, both which were heavily-writing based programs. A significant part of my "day job" involves writing as well. I also served as a writing consultant on my college campus for two years and learned a lot about working with people with different learning styles and developed skills for working with people who hate writing!
My Skills: I excel at proofreading and working with students on grammar, but also at explaining overall writing structures. I try to help all my students understand your strengths and weaknesses as a writer as I get to know your writing style. However, depending on the needs/time of the student I can also triage what we should work on if you're focused on a specific assignment. I am also fluent in both APA and MLA in terms of helping you with citations!
My Process: If you're working on a specific assignment, I can help out wherever you are at in the process: brainstorming and coming up with a thesis, coming up with a plan and paper structure, or helping proofread and provide feedback at the end. If I've never worked with you before, I usually suggest that you start with an hour with me; I can review what you have for a 1/2 hour and then give you feedback in an online session OR we can talk first and then work through one of the problem areas together. If you just want written feedback (track changes and comments inputted), I charge a minimum of $
