Hello! My name is Sophia, and I am a current BS Architecture student at Texas A&M University pursuing a minor in Spanish. I am a native Spanish speaker raised in Venezuela, and I have been studying in the United States since the 6th grade. During my junior year of high school, I had the unique privilege of studying under a brilliant teacher from Barcelona, Spain. This background gave me a deep appreciation for the rich variation of accents and cultural nuances of the language. Combined with my recent experience scoring a perfect 5 on both the AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature exams, I bridge the gap between true native fluency and a deep, first-hand understanding of the US school system and AP exam rubrics.
Over the past two years, I have built a diverse tutoring background that has taught me how to adapt to completely different learning styles and age groups. I have spent extensive time working with elementary students: guiding 4th and 5th graders towards improving their writing and reading comprehension skills, and helping 1st graders develop foundational literacy and mathematic skills. Additionally, I have meaningful experience working one-on-one with a special needs student where together we focused on building communication independence.
Whether I'm working with 1st graders and helping them create strong and sustatinable study habits, or breaking down complex text analysis for an AP student, my tutoring stems from patience, encouragement, and absolute adaptability. Architecture has taught me immense discipline, and my students remind me of the importance of having different ways to explain a concept until it makes sense. For AP students, I emphasize practice around timed essay strategies and historical context to maximize rubric points, and for younger or neurodiverse students, I focus on building their confidence and self-reliance. I will adapt my teaching to your student's learning style, and I can't wait to partner with your family to help your student thrive!
