Greetings! I'm Andrew, a guitarist and educator originally from New Orleans, LA. After graduating from NOCCA in 2008, I studied Jazz Performance and Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, graduating in 2012.

Since then, I’ve performed internationally at major festivals and built a professional career in New Orleans, Boston, and New York City.

As a teacher, I work with guitarists at every level—from beginners learning fundamentals to advanced players refining their artistry.

My specialties include jazz, blues, rock, funk, R&B, folk, country, and Latin styles, as well as improvisation, chord melody, 7-string jazz guitar, music theory, and recording.

My teaching style is tailored to each individuals particular skill level, technical proficiency, musical interests, and personal goals. My approach balances technical discipline with musical creativity, helping students develop not just technical skills, but a deeper understanding of the guitar and music as a whole.

I teach a core set of technical fundamentals and music literacy curriculum that comprises about 1/3 of each lesson, and the rest revolves around music that you are interested in learning––which could be anything from learning to strum some Van Morrison, play a Steve Vai guitar solo, or improvise over Giant Steps.

Learning music that you love in conjunction with theoretical concepts and technical skills creates a web of understanding that gives you an entryway into the world of music as a participant and not just a spectator, giving you a lifelong skill that you can always come back to.

Ear Training

Ear Training

Ear Training is a vast and essential discipline, intricately linked to both Music Theory and Performance—most notably in the realm of improvisation. Andrew B., a graduate of NOCCA and Berklee College of Music, has explored ear training from multiple angles and now brings that breadth of experience to his teaching. From an academic standpoint, ear training reinforces the written language of music: recognizing intervals, chords, progressions, scales, modes, and rhythms, and developing relative pitch through structured techniques and associations. This foundation sharpens analytical skills and deepens a student’s understanding of theory. Equally vital is the performance-based dimension, where ear training becomes an intuitive tool for expression. This aspect is best cultivated with an experienced improviser, and Andrew draws on more than two decades as a professional guitarist specializing in jazz and blues. His approach is both practical and artistic, guiding students to not only hear with precision but to respond musically in the moment. Through his teaching, ear training becomes more than an academic exercise—it becomes a pathway to greater fluency, creativity, and confidence as a musician.
