Dear prospective music student:
I am both a professional musician and an experienced music teacher. I began playing musical instruments on the recorder in 4th grade and through the years added flute, saxophone, guitar with voice, and harmonica. I received a significant amount of private instruction but I am largely self taught. In addition to school bands such as stage band and wind ensemble, I have been playing professionally and recreationally in popular music bands since I was 17.
As an older adult, I studied music and music education at Cal State Dominguez's, Schools of Music and Music Education, graduating with honors and a California Music Teaching Certificate in 2011. Since then I have taught as a a classroom music teacher, substitute teacher, tutor and instrumental music teacher (all ages) in California, Oregon, and Texas.
My greatest skill in music is as a creator of impromptu melodies, in other words, improvising solos, and I began building that skill at age 12. It is important that all of my instrumental music students are open to eventually gaining the ability to do the same.
My preference is for in-person instruction. I live in Irving Texas, and I am willing to travel throughout the Dallas Fort Worth Area.
