As a student in high school and middle school, my career was marked with several achievements: I earned National Recognition on the Duke TIP talent search, my PSAT and ACT scores were in the top 1% nationally, and I scored 1st place in the Social Science section of the 2017 Texas Large Schools Varsity Academic Decathlon. Yet I remember how my life was also fraught with anxiety and difficulty then, and there were many times when I could have used a helping hand. Today, I hope I can provide that support to someone who needs it.
While I haven't worked in a paid tutoring role yet, I do have some experience aiding my peers in their schoolwork while earning volunteer hours for NJHS and, somewhat more recently, during after-class study sessions at North Lake Community College. I've also helped train some of my coworkers back when I worked at the 24-Hour Help Desk of Texas A and M's Hullabaloo Residence Hall. Personally speaking, I recognize that effective teaching and communication depends on patience, empathy, and clarity. Nevertheless, I'm also cognizant of my relative lack of accolades in this department, and I'm willing to be flexible regarding tutoring rates.
Although English and Science are perhaps my strongest areas, I'm willing to help with a variety of other subjects, including but not limited to basic math and test prep. I encourage both students and parents to contact me if they have any questions. I genuinely hope I can help, and I'll try to tailor my tutoring style as benefits each student.
