Hi, my name is Maryam. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in biology with plans to go to medical school. My love for math began early. Hi, my name is Maryam. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in biology with plans to go to medical school. My love for math began early. I would help my younger sister with her math homework and break down concepts until they clicked for her. From there, I started helping my friends in middle school and high school as well as other peers. I understand how concepts can be difficult and I know how to break it down into steps. My experience as both a student and a tutor has given me the ability to be explain ideas in a less complex way.
I have experience tutoring elementary math, pre-algebra, and early algebra, working with students to strengthen skills in arithmetic, fractions, ratios, and problem-solving. I have previously worked at a tutoring company called Mathnasium for a year. I taught kids of all ages ranging from elementary school to high school through a variety of different math subjects. I've worked with students one-on-one and in small groups, which has taught me how to adjust my explanations and pacing to fit each student's individual learning style.
My approach in tutoring is based in patience and breaking down topics into manageable steps. I like to see what the person already knows and then build on that foundation. I focus on helping students understand the why behind a concept, so they can walk away with confidence and skills. Thank you for viewing my profile, I would love the chance to work with you.
