My name is Bruce Wilson, and I am a special education and social studies tutor with several years of classroom experience supporting diverse learners. I hold a bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Law and Society from Grambling State University, where I earned a 3.3 GPA and multiple academic distinctions. I have passed the Praxis Social Studies (6–12) exam and am currently working toward a master’s degree in Education with a GPA above 3.5. I began my academic career in history because I was drawn to understanding people, their decisions, and the consequences that follow.
I have taught primarily students ages 11–15 in inclusive and self-contained classrooms. My experience includes working as a para-professional supporting science and history, an in-class support special education teacher providing small-group instruction in math and English language arts, and a student teacher who regularly co-taught and supported multiple subjects. Most recently, I have served as a self-contained special education teacher teaching all core subjects. I have extensive experience working with students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and behavioral needs.
My teaching approach focuses on meeting students where they are and building confidence through structured, supportive instruction. In humanities, I teach annotation and how to answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions to deepen understanding. In math, I model problems, have students explain the process back, and provide guided practice using multiple strategies and manipulatives. My goal is to help students think critically, remain objective, and become confident, independent learners.
