My name is Mirna. I have been a kindergarten teacher for 12 years, taught second grade for a year and am currently teaching first grade. I am a Spanish native speaker certified to teach bilingual education.

I have been in an elementary school setting for 14 years. I love teaching how to read both in English and in Spanish. I have been a one way bilingual teacher. In this kind of program I taught all subjects. My role was building the foundation in Spanish and adding English as a second language during math. I have also done the 2-way program in which students who are monolingual in Spanish and monolingual in English learn Spanish through science and social studies from me and English from a partner teacher in math. I still built the language foundation in Spanish with the Spanish native speakers. I have also taught a bilingual early exit program. In this program students learn English through all subjects and Spanish is used as a reinforcement. Last, I am now a first grade teacher teaching English to native English speakers.
I am looking forward to working with students who need Spanish language reinforcements or wanting to learn the language with little to no experience. I’m also looking forward to working with students in the lower elementary grades who need English language reinforcement.

I have been a tutor for elementary before getting certified as a teacher. I have taught grades Kinder and second, and am currently teaching 1st grade.
