Hi, I’m Meagan! As a Science of Teaching Reading (STR) certified Special Education Teacher with 5 years of classroom experience, I know firsthand that every child learns differently. While I stepped away from traditional classroom teaching to focus entirely on individualized student support, my absolute passion remains helping children grow. I adore the small steps, the breakthroughs, and celebrating the micro-victories that happen when a student finally cracks a tough concept.

Stepping out of the school system has given me an incredible gift: time. Without the constant distractions of school paperwork and meetings, I am able to fully pour my energy, creativity, and preparation into designing deeply customized lessons for my tutoring students. Over my 5 years in the classroom, I have utilized IXL extensively as a core tool to assess student gaps, adapt data-driven curriculum, and tailor individualized practice. I ground my reading, phonics, and spelling instruction in explicit, evidence-based resources such as the UFLI Foundations program, blending structured routines with color-coded frameworks and differentiated graphic organizers to make learning visually accessible and engaging.

Whether your child needs a confidence boost in foundational phonics, tools to navigate dysgraphia, or structured strategies to make measurable progress in reading comprehension and written expression, I meet them exactly where they are. I specialize in supporting neurodiverse learners—including students with dyslexia, autism, and specific learning disabilities—in a low-stress environment where they feel safe to take risks. By blending proven instructional frameworks with patient, individualized guidance, I look forward to partnering with your family to turn frustrating academic hurdles into moments of genuine pride and success!

Approved Subjects

ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

During my 5 years as a Special Education Teacher, I specialized in supporting diverse learners, including a significant population of ESL students. I am well-versed in adapting core curriculum to effectively build students' language proficiency, literacy, and communicative confidence. My teaching approach relies on multimodal learning, intentionally integrating clear visuals and physical movement to accelerate vocabulary acquisition and deep comprehension. I am dedicated to creating a low-stress, engaging environment where language learners feel motivated to take risks and grow their skills.
Grammar

Grammar

During my 5 years as a Special Education Teacher, I specialized in breaking down the foundational mechanics of grammar for diverse elementary learners. I have extensive experience guiding students of all ability levels to master basic parts of speech—such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives—and understand what truly constitutes a complete sentence. To make these abstract concepts accessible, I rely heavily on visual aids, structural color-coding, and highly differentiated graphic organizers tailored to each child's unique learning needs. I am dedicated to turning confusing grammar rules into clear, structured patterns so students can build accurate sentences with ease.
Handwriting

Handwriting

During my 5 years as a Special Education Teacher, I specialized in delivering targeted handwriting interventions to 1st through 5th-grade students. I bring extensive experience supporting students with various needs, such as students with dysgraphia and orthopedic impairments, having actively utilized evidence-based programs like "Handwriting Without Tears" and the "Reading by Design" dyslexia/dysgraphia intervention in the classroom. My approach focuses heavily on developing fine motor control, proper letter formation, and spatial awareness to make writing more fluent and less fatiguing. I am dedicated to helping students overcome physical writing barriers so they can express their ideas with legibility and confidence.
Phonics

Phonics

During my 5 years as a Science of Teaching Reading (STR) certified Special Education Teacher, I specialized in delivering systematic phonics instruction to 1st through 5th-grade students. My lessons draw heavily from my deep classroom background with the "Reading by Design" dyslexia framework and targeted digital practice through IXL. Today, I anchor my online instruction in explicit, evidence-based resources such as the UFLI Foundations sequence to ensure students master blending and decoding. I also bring high-level expertise in leadership, having actively trained new colleagues on how to adapt and differentiate phonics lessons to support diverse learning styles.
Reading

Reading

During my 5 years as a Science of Teaching Reading (STR) certified Special Education Teacher, I specialized in teaching foundational literacy and comprehension to 1st through 5th-grade students. I bring extensive experience tailoring lessons for diverse learners, including students with dyslexia, autism, and specific learning disabilities. My approach bridges the gap between decoding and deep comprehension by guiding students to actively make inferences and personal connections to the text. I am dedicated to helping struggling readers overcome challenges, build confidence, and develop a genuine love for reading.
Spelling

Spelling

Grounded in my STR certification, I teach spelling as an essential, interconnected pillar of total literacy development. During my 5 years as a Special Education Teacher, I specialized in helping diverse learners, including students with dyslexia and dysgraphia, master spelling by identifying predictable patterns, breaking down morphemes, and applying strategies from specialized frameworks like the "Reading by Design" intervention. Rather than relying on rote memorization, my explicit approach focuses on helping students map spoken speech sounds to written letter strings. Today, I leverage my deep background with IXL and the systematic UFLI sequence to design highly adaptive individual practice that transforms struggling spellers into capable, independent writers.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

As an STR-certified Special Education Teacher, I approach vocabulary instruction through a structural lens that bridges word recognition and deep comprehension. Over my 5 years of teaching, I have guided 1st through 5th-grade students to unpack the meaning of text by exploring morphology, root words, prefixes, and suffixes. Because all forms of literacy are interconnected, I integrate vocabulary directly into reading and spelling to ensure new words stick in a student's long-term memory. My goal is to expand each child’s expressive language skills, giving them the tools they need to unlock complex texts independently.
Writing

Writing

Over my 5 years as a Special Education Teacher, I have helped 1st through 5th-grade students of all starting abilities navigate the complete writing process. I bring extensive experience helping neurodiverse students build the stamina and foundational skills needed for Short Constructed Responses (SCRs) and Extended Constructed Responses (ECRs). Whether guiding students to make progress on argumentative and informative frameworks or helping learners to write about what they read, I meet every child exactly where they are. Using color-coded strategies and differentiated graphic organizers, I break down complex writing expectations into accessible, confidence-building steps.
