Hi. I'm Diane. I am originally from Michigan and have a Master's degree in Education specializing in English as a Second Language and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Upon graduating, I moved to Venezuela and taught ESL to children, adolescents, and adults there for 30 years. Since returning to the U.S. three years ago, I have been an ESOL Reading Instructor at Lone Star College, I have also taught beginner to advanced level ESL courses and Accent Reduction for several language companies, and tutored Spanish and English Language Arts Reading Courses.

I have an extensive background in Accent Reduction, having studied Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German and Linguistics while at the University of Michigan and achieving bilingual fluency in Spanish. Because of this experience, I can easily diagnose the reason for a particular student's difficulties in pronunciation and devise strategies for solving them. Many of these difficulties are the result of a lack of information about how the native speaker links words in the stream of speech and how to decipher the confusing spelling of English. As a result the student acquires many learned errors in pronunciation. Once these things are explained, a student's pronunciation can improve dramatically.

I am a qualified Spanish tutor since I have bilingual fluency as well as a degree in the language. If the source of a Spanish-speaking student's grammar or pronunciation errors in English are due to a "transfer" from their native language, my knowledge of Spanish is extremely helpful in identifying and correcting them.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing one's students improve and excel, and having been a part of it. I believe good teachers are born, not made. The ability to connect with and inspire one's students, a sincere belief in their abilities, dynamic classes and enthusiasm are key to becoming an outstanding teacher. This is the teacher I strive to be. My students are the highlight of my day; they truly inspi

I have a Master's degree in Education specializing in ESL from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I taught ESL to children for 30 years while living in Venezuela. My students were taught the four language skills, including oral reading and reading comprehension. Not only were these children learning English as a Second Language, but they had the added difficulty of learning a completely different sound system represented by the same alphabet. All became exceptional readers in my classes.

Very positive 1st class

It was a very good first class in which Diane took the time to review my skills and what work has to be done. Also gave me a first glance of the pronunciation most common mistakes which I do have. Look forward to next classes. Thank You.!!!!!!!

The most amazing tutor you’ll ever have!

There aren’t enough words to express my experience with Diane! She managed to help me improve tremendously in just a couple of lessons! She’s patient, knowledgeable and the most kind person i’ve met. You can’t go wrong with picking her as your tutor regardless of your level of English accent/pronunciation!

Fun and Knowledgeable!

Ms. Diane is very quick to determine the source of your mispronunciations and other problems. She also sends you lots of materials and practice. You will notice that she really cares for her students, and makes sure you understand her teachings and that you become aware of your own speech challenges. Not only is she clearly knowledgeable but her classes are very fun! Ms. Diane is my second accent reduction teacher and it always amazes me how time flies by with her. In contrast to my first accent couch, I don’t spend my classes watching the cloak and therefore learning little. No, Ms. Diane makes sure her classes are interactive and that you are engaged. As a plus, Ms. Diane speaks Spanish perfectly so she is ideal for us native Spanish speakers who want to ace the American accent. She recognizes common mistakes and she even uses Spanish sounds or words to guides us into pronouncing the correct English sound. I really recommend Ms. Diane for classes of accent reduction (while having fun), Liza Vega.

Extremely Knowledgeable, kind, patient and excellent tutor.

I have been learning Spanish with Diane for just under a year and she is an excellent and effective tutor. I commenced my Spanish journey at the elementary level and I needed a tutor who is patient, knowledgeable and an effective communicator. Diane is all of those things and so much more. She has a real ability to break down difficult areas of learning a language into simple strategies to reach the end goal. Diane is extremely encouraging and pushes me to be confident in my own abilities when it comes to speaking Spanish. I have vastly improved my Spanish in just under a year and I know there is much more to come. Diane will push you to go beyond what you think you are capable of and she also makes it fun along the way. If you are looking for a kind, patient, extremely knowledgeable and effective Spanish tutor, I cannot recommend Diane highly enough. She is the perfect tutor to help any student, at any level, to reach their goal of becoming an effective and accomplished Spanish speaker.

Diane is a great tutor, very knowledgeable, and patient

I've been taking lessons with Diane for the last five months, and she has helped me reduce my accent. It has been beneficial for me that she is fluent in Spanish, as she can easily identify common mistakes that Spanish speakers make. I would definitely recommend Diane as she is very knowledgeable and has plenty of experience.

Experienced and effective tutor

I've been taking lessons with Diane for about a month now and she's really so great. I can already notice how much I've improved in such a short time. She really engages with her students and uses very practical methods to help them improve their pronunciation. I like, for instance, that she's not afraid to interrupt you when you make a mistake (She also does it in a very diplomatic and constructive way). If you're a native Spanish-speaker trying to improve your English pronunciation, she's definitely the right tutor for you. She spent many years in Venezuela and she uses that experience to help you understand why you're making certain mistakes and what you need to do to avoid them. Overall she's a great tutor and a pleasure to work with.

As a native Spanish speaker, I also find it tremendously helpful that she's fluent in Spanish and spent many years in South America. That allows her to identify common mistakes and understand why Spanish speakers like me struggle with certain words more than others. Overall she's a great tutor and a pleasure to work with.
