Hi there, I'm Alex. I am an experienced educator and literacy specialist with over a decade of experience supporting students in elementary and secondary education.

I began my career as a fourth-grade gifted and talented teacher and later served as a librarian and reading and writing specialist before returning to the classroom to continue teaching fourth grade. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University, a Master’s in Educational Administration from Lamar University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a concentration in reading from the University of Houston–Clear Lake. Most recently, I served as a College Access Program Manager, where I supported students with their college applications.

My passion is helping students grow into confident, capable readers and writers. I believe learning should be engaging, meaningful, and empowering. Whether through literacy development, writing support, or skill-building, I focus on meeting students where they are and helping them reach their full potential.

As a former tutoring student myself, I understand the impact individualized support can have. My goal is to strengthen areas of need, build confidence, and create a positive learning experience that helps students thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

I am an experienced English Language Arts teacher with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a concentration in reading. I’ve taught 4th grade, English II at the high school level, and served as a school librarian, giving me a strong foundation in supporting readers and writers at all stages. My expertise includes reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, and test preparation (STAAR, SAT/ACT English, AP English). I create engaging, personalized lessons that help students build confidence and succeed in English.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I hold a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and have extensive experience working with diverse student populations. I currently serve as a college advisor, helping first-generation and low-income students navigate the college admissions process and achieve academic success. My expertise includes literacy development, curriculum design, and integrating culturally responsive practices into instruction. I am passionate about supporting students in reaching their full potential and fostering inclusive, equitable learning environments.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I worked for a non-profit helping students from first-generation and low-income families get into highly selective colleges. I guided them through the college admissions process. I was also a high school English teacher and have my doctorate in education, so I am well-versed in assisting students with crafting compelling statements to get into college.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching English Language Arts in grades 3–5, with extensive experience teaching fourth grade. I specialize in helping students build reading comprehension, writing, and grammar skills in ways that are engaging and easy to understand. My approach is supportive, structured, and confidence-building, so students strengthen their literacy skills and learn to enjoy reading and writing. Whether your child needs targeted support, help catching up, or enrichment, I will tailor lessons to their unique needs and learning style.
English

English

I am a past high school English teacher. I have experience individually tutoring students to enhance their reading and writing abilities. I look forward to working with your student!
Grammar

Grammar

I teach my fourth-grade students grammar extensively to build up their writing skills. Without the proper grammar instruction, the students writing would not be as strong.
Reading

Reading

As an avid reader, I try to pass on my love for reading to any children that I come in contact with. To be a better reader, you must read more. I typically am able to build students' interest in reading by identifying high-interest texts that students like. I am a certified reading teacher and have a high Reading STAAR passing rate.
STAAR

STAAR

I have been a fourth-grade teacher in HISD for the last three years. I teach reading, writing, and language arts to gifted and talented students. I like to incorporate movement and gamify lessons when possible. Over the last three years, I have taught just over 100 students. Out of those students, the number of students who have not passed reading or writing STAAR under my teaching remains in the single digits.
Writing

Writing

I am a fourth-grade writing teacher. But I tutor one of my former students who is now in 7th grade in writing.
